I was sort of surprised when I found that out...and then I really wasn't. Fonda was a longtime liberal.

The scene where Fonda flips open the switchblade and sticks it in the tabletop. Classic.
The line I remember most often: Jack Warden: "I-I don't have to..." George Voskovec: "You DO have to!"

Loved the movie. Bogart, MacMurray and Jose Ferrer were fantastic. Bogart was never better and certainly MacMurray was at his very best. Guys like Van Johnson and Tom Tully were also excellent. But Robert Francis who had a major role as the Ensign was a terrible actor and almost ruined the movie all by himself. Tragically he died a year after the movie was released at the age of 25.
Agree with you on Stalag 17.
on edit: Did anyone see "The Caine Mutiny Court Martial"... a 1988 TV movie that I actually prefer to the older film. Eric Bogosian, Brad davis and Jeff Daniels were marvelous. Great courtroom drama.

22. I have both the original and the remake, and was quite impressed |
|
with both of them. I think most remakes suck, but this one was as great as the original, in part, because the story and dialogue are so good, but mostly because the actors in both versions were so damned great.

23. A few more good ones: |
|
"Grand Hotel"--Garbo, both barrymores, Crawford, and Wallace Beery, probably giving the best performance of the lot... "Dinner at Eight"--Beery again, Barrymore again, Harlow, Marie Dressler...and an even better last line than "Some Like it Hot"... "Casablanca" has a pretty good cast...LOL... So does "All About Eve"... Also lots of Woody Allen and Robert Altman films..."Nashville" comes to mind especially...
