14. My degree is in Athletic Training
I have one more hurdle to face when I take my certification exam in June in order for me to get licensed and practice my profession legally

15. Hey, I have this pain in my left wrist...
That's seriously cool, girl! I've done a couple stories on trainers, which made me understand how much education and practical experience they have to have before being certified. As one of 'em put it, it ain't just takin' care of the jocks and socks anymore.

What do you want to do? Work for a pro team or a college, or...?

(A rather redundant smilie in your case, I understand.)

19. It's definitely a growing profession
and we have just as many rules, regulations and training as many other health care professions. Right now I think I'm going to take a year off do some menial job in the mean time and then go back and get my masters in AT. After that it's pretty much open...it would be great to work for a pro team but you have to be really lucky and unfortunately a male (although females are making great strides in that department in recent years). I wouldn't mind working at a college possibly getting my PhD so I can become a professor when I get burnt out. But I'll probably end up working at a high school which is fine because here in NJ we are paid on the teacher salary scale which makes us the highest paid athletic trainers in the country

20. Another plus:
There are loads of high schools out there. The trainer at the high school here became the AD for awhile.

Still, it's a lot better to be with a college or pro team. That way, when somebody gets hurt, you're on teevee. :bounce:

21. the only downside...
the travel schedule can be tough...but personally I love to travel and I don't have any family obligations right now, it's kind of the reason why I want to go to a big DI school for to get my masters. Where I went for my undergrad was a small DIII so I didn't get much opportunity to travel far, so I would love to have the experience

22. I think I'd kinda like a D-III school
if I were a trainer or otherwise associated with sports. They play just as many road games (half) and they go to such fascinating, little-known places as Doowadiddy Tech in Toenail, Wisc.

But they don't get on teevee as much, except maybe on tape-delay at 2 a.m. on Ed's Sports Channel and Electric Bait Shoppe.
