More Britney baby bungling
Britney Spears Stumbles, Nearly Drops Baby

Britney Spears stumbled outside a Manhattan hotel, nearly dropping her 8-month-old son...the 24-year-old pop star...(was)...exiting the Ritz-Carlton hotel with Sean Preston in one hand and a glass in the other...(Her) long pants apparently...tangled in her open-toed shoes...and (she) bent low as Sean Preston's head flung backward, knocking off his orange hat...Spears...was able to keep her balance and hold on to her son, with help from a bodyguard...

Earlier this week, she was photographed driving with Sean Preston in a car seat facing forward rather than facing backward, which some safety regulations say is best.

Spears...was visited by a sheriff's deputy...after Sean Preston slipped from his nanny's arms as she was lifting him from a high chair and something in the chair snapped. In February, authorities visited Spears' home after photos showed the singer in a car with her son in her lap, instead of being strapped to a car seat in the back seat...

The chair incident is nobody's fault if it really did malfuntion. But I don't understand how that would have caused the nanny to drop the baby if she was already in the process of lifting him.

If Britney has gone from no child protection seat at all to a backward one, I suppose we should consider that progress. As for leaving a hotel knowing that a squadron of papparazzi would be outside trying to hold on to both an eight-month old baby and a drink, I think she could use another visit from the authorites. Holding a child of that age is very much a two-handed job. Babies having babies, as Judge Joe Brown likes to say.

1. It's not a baby having a baby
It's an immature trashy woman having a baby. My mom had me at 18 -- which was, of course, way too young -- but she was responsible and mature.

And, it's an immature trashy man having several babies by more than one woman... while basically being unemployed the whole time.

She's pregnant, remmeber... drinking... snapping the abby's head back, etc....

Yet gay people in Florida can't adopt kids....

2. Of course "babies having babies" has MORE to do with immaturity than youth
But more often than not, however, they're intertwined. I don't need to be convinced that there are people like your mother who are exceptions to the rule--I'm just saying that people like your mother ARE exceptions to the rule!

Why do we jump to that conclusion?

20. I don't believe we can make that judgment based on a few
isolated incidents.

The baby seat should be rear-facing in the car until the baby is one year old, regardless of how much he weighs. However, the fact that it's not is not evidence that Britney is an unfit mother. It's evidence that she's young and inexperienced, and she's hardly the first mother to have turned her baby front-facing too early. Maybe someone who knows her will now suggest she turn it around again.

Tripping with the baby on her hip? That's not evidence of an unfit mother either. Do you know how many mothers carry their babies on one hip while doing something else with the other hand? What if THEY trip? Should they be written off as bad mothers?

It was Britney's NANNY who dropped the baby that time, and it has been reported that the nanny was fired. Even so, THAT was just an accident.

It looks now like the press are just out to get Britney, salivating and standing over her, waiting for her to make some mistake so they can pounce all over it and paint her as a "bad" mother.

Look at this picture.

That was taken in a restaurant after the stumbling incident. She was upset, and the assholes couldn't even let her cry in peace.

What kind of people are we, swooping down like vultures to pick at this girl? Yeah, yeah, I know she's on the other side politically. So what? She's a young woman, inexperienced, being chased and hounded like a criminal. God forbid any of us other parents should have our fitness as parents judged based on a few pictures and isolated mistakes. Aren't we supposed to be the compassionate ones? We're no better than those we mock.

She is a human flawed person just like all of us. When I look back at some of the things I did as a new first-time mom I just cringe. However, I didn't have papparazi following me everywhere to record it for the entire world to then pick me apart.

14. Britney became a public figure by making her figure public
Edited on Sat May-20-06 12:52 PM by rocknation
She wouldn't exist if cameras didn't, so her resenting the paparazzi is grossly misplaced. This is about her lack of the most basic common sense--her parenting decisions are disturbingly childlike.

In order to save her son from being photographed, she risked having him go through a windshield by driving with him on her lap. She was with a bodyguard, but it didn't even occur to her to hand the baby to him. She gets a visit from the authorities as a result, and her response is to drive with her child safety seat in backward! And though her stumble didn't result in injury, carrying an eight-month-old baby on one arm because you're holding a glass of something in the other (knowing that you're pregnant and that paparazzi will be watching) is simply another example of poor priority-setting.

Britney should NOT be left alone because she clearly isn't learning from her mistakes.

For the reasons you state, that's all the MORE reason why she should have had the baby seat facing the right way!

23. Good grief. Leave her alone. She's a young idiot, but so are lots of folks
My mother had me at 19. She left me in a running car when I was 3 months old (I was sleeping, it was snowing, and she didn't want to wake me because I was the insomniac baby from hell) and managed to lock herself out of the car. Fortunately, she had high school friends on the rescue squad.

She slipped while carrying me down a flight of stairs when I was 5 months old. Considering the number of times I've fallen down stairs, and the number of stairs our house had (3 stories, 4 total flights, plus the stairs into and out of the house) I'm lucky she only fell once. She ended up with a bruise from her hip nearly to her knee, but I was fine.

If Brit was a normal 24 year old mother stumbled while carrying her baby, it wouldn't matter in the least. But this girl, misguided froot loop of a republican or not, can't go to the toilet without getting photographed, and she's forced to see her entire life on the supermarket rags.

I'd be macing the fuckers if they wouldn't leave me alone, but I'm mean.

Personally, I'm glad to see that she CARRIES her baby, instead of carting him around in one of those plastic chairs like an oversized, ugly purse.

29. I've never said this to anyone but my husband before now...
Thank the Gods that we were not rich and famous when we were learning how to be parents for the first time! I would have been mortified if the cameras would have caught me giving our daughter one of her first baths and banging her head with the faucet... especially if they didn't catch both of us screaming as one after the fact. I would have been further mortified if the cameras were there the first time I was stopped in a routine traffic check only to learn that our car seat wasn't installed properly.

Seriously, thanks to those above and below that I was not famous. Being a new parent is difficult enough, but it must be 100-times worse when you are placed under a microscope.

32. That's just snippy & wrong
And you probably wanted it to sound that way, which makes it about 10 times worse.

No one is talking about parents who purposefully hurt their children -- no one is talking about parents who abuse their children. What we are discussing is a new mother -- albeit a rich and famous one -- who doesn't have a clue and the fact that many of us were the same way when we had our first child.

Motherhood isn't an instinct.
