I'm pissed...sorry, need to vent
The last couple of days I had mid-day and evening gigs. Since my older son works during the day, I had to get a sitter for my 7 year old for the afternoons. So I asked a very nice woman who is a member of our homeschool networking group. My son gets along well with her kids, and they like him, too; so she was happy to help out. She's very kind, and won't take any pay, so I try to help her out by giving her kids a ride to the art classes they take with my son.

Well, on both days my friend had her husband watching the kids for a little while, which didn't bother me, because he's always seemed very pleasant. When I asked my son how his day was, he said it was fine, except that his friends' dad made him sit. I asked my son if he'd done something wrong and needed a time out; and he said no (believe me, he'd tell me.) I said there must have been some reason he wanted you to sit, and he told me there was a reason, but he forgot what it was. I just brushed it off, thinking he might have wanted him to sit while they ate, or just needed some peace.

Before I dropped him off this afternoon, I told him to be sure he minded the grown-ups, and I figured everything would be fine. My friend's husband greeted us at the door, said he was a good kid, and it was a pleasure to have him there...he said nothing about him being bad. He told me he planned to have the kids play outside, which was fine by me.

When I picked him up this afternoon, my friend said she hoped he had a good time; and he was disappointed to have to leave...sounded like all was well. But then he told me that while his friends' dad watched them, he had let the kids go into the yard to play, and made him lie down and take a nap. :wtf: Then he burst into tears, saying it was boring, and he wouldn't even let him read a book. :wtf::wtf:

When the kids' mom returned, everything was fine...she let them play and he enjoyed himself. She said nothing to me about any poor behavior.

I want to call them and ask if he did anything wrong...explain that he was very upset because he didn't understand why he was being made to sit or go to sleep, and not even allowed to read. And I want to tell them that I find it very disturbing myself; because certainly a child should know what his offense is when he's being punished.

I'm not sure if it's worth it though...I certainly don't want him to have anything to do with that man again; and if my friend watches him, there's no guarantee that she wouldn't leave my son in his care again. I think he's a fucking creep. :grr:

Thanks for your comments...sorry to rant!

30. GTFO means get out of the lounge if you don't like a venting post.
it's going to happen. Have you never been here. IT'S THE LOUNGE FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Go back to GD or GDP or LBN or your state forum, or a topic forum that is about your pet cause, but dont' come in here and piss on people for sharing their life with each other.

and just so you know what the lounge is really about, here's a picture of my dog, and a cat.

Yeah, Midnight was born with some sort of chronic sinus condition. We don't know what exactly, but no medications ever worked and it doesn't seem to bother her. She's always stuffy but thankfully she almost never sneezes gobs of snot. Despite this, she's more active than most other senior cats. And more badass than most cats/dogs of any age.

I wasn't the one who told you to GTFO. I told you, you weren't a worthy opponent. The LOUNGE is for whatever we want it to be. We as human beings have a right to vent. You had NO right to piss all over GoG's thread. Her concerns are legitimate. If YOU didn't like it, then you need to not read. If you have nothing nice to say regarding her topic, then say nothing at all. Her vent isn't in the least bit petty. NOTHING, when it comes to OUR children is petty. Now as I suggested before go take a nap.

9. My dear GoddessOfGuinness......
I certainly think you have something to be concerned about here.....

I do NOT understand the other posters, and their flip remarks!

I'm not sure how I would approach this.....Perhaps I'd talk to my girlfriend first, and tell her what her husband was doing...

But I am truly not sure.....

Otherwise, if the situation does not improve, I sure as heck would be looking for another person to take care of your son.....

Have a hug, sweetie.....

I'm not going to wait for the situation to improve. If my son wants to visit with his friends, I'll invite them to come to the park with their mom. Frankly, I'm a little concerned about her. I find myself wondering if she's a victim of abuse.

14. I'd be concerned too
A seven year old is certainly old enough to understand and communicate why he was being singled out in some way. Something is really hinky about this.

BTW, did the other mom tell you that she'd be leaving her kids and your child with her husband sometimes? Seems to me that if she offered to watch him that she really needs to be there with him unless there's a prior arangement that it's okay to leave him with her kids' dad. That'd concern me even if all else was peachy.

19. One time she watched him, she asked me if I could
pick him up at the park where one of her sons has baseball practice. I arrived at the appointed time, and the kids weren't there...which got me more than a little frantic. When I called her cell phone, her husband answered and said they were on their way over. I was a little taken aback, as she hadn't mentioned her husband taking charge; but he always seemed pleasant, so I didn't say anything.

The last couple of days she indicated that her husband would be with them part of the time. But I'm definitely not ok with it now. I'm just glad it wasn't something more serious...

18. Some people just shouldn't ever watch kids
Edited on Sat May-20-06 12:40 AM by KC2
When I was 7, my mother had her hands full with my 3 other siblings (my father was away due to the Vietnam war) and I was forced to spend many afternoons at aunts' houses. One aunt of mine, in particular, made me just sit in the backyard of her home while she watched tv inside, for up to 4 hours at a time. It made me feel unwanted and alone. Sometimes, to this day, I wonder if that isn't one reason I am somewhat of a loner.

You are not wrong to ever question something which might seem unusual in a situation like the one you described. I can't believe someone said you were "self-absorbed" and I hope it was a joke.

I didn't mean to go on and on about this, but it's a sensitive subject for me. And, I think you have a right (as well as your son) to be upset about it.

Hope it all works out. And, yes, sometimes we all need a little rant! (or, even a big one!)

24. It's good to hear from someone who's been there...
Actually, my son is a little bit of a loner anyway; but he prefers to be a loner around other kids, if that makes any sense. I apologized to him earlier, and told him that if I'd known this guy would be mean to him, I would have made other arrangements. I also told him that he could still visit with his friends; but it would be in places other than their home.

As to the poster who's sure that anyone who loves and cares about their kids is self-absorbed; I'm sorry his folks didn't care a little more for him. He's on my ignore list for the moment anyway, because I'm in no mood for crap. :D

74. That was no apology.
He said my post was useless...Not apologetic at all.
He is now a non-person on my list and will remain so. I hope for his sake that he considers his rudeness and lack of compassion before he isolates himself even more.

76. I saw apology, and took it at face value. I hope I didn't give you false
hopes, and my real apologies if I am the cause of dissapointment.

It's good to want to give folks the benefit of the doubt. Occasionally they aren't worth it...sadly.
