Oasis was too far out in front of the news-cycle. |
|
I'm speaking of their 1994 album Definately Maybe. This came as a shock to the rock establishment traditionalists, who saw that The Beatles were no longer entrenched in their station, and thus spurred resentment with an army of Beatlist propagandists. It is not unlike the establishment of conservative think tank members which may be organized enough to spread their propaganda far and wide, but have co-opted a much larger segment of the media than the interests they represent.
The act of being too far out in front of the news-cycle is one of the great accomplishments of international megastars.
Score one for Oasis.

1. Why do you insist on doing this? |
|
You like Oasis. That's great. Enjoy them. But why do you have to inflict this bullshit on us?
Oasis aren't anything special. They're a middle-of-the-road rock and roll band fronted by an obnoxious talentless gobshite. They're not the Beatles. Give us a break.

2. It's DU performance art, man |
|
And if performance art is the lowest form of art, and DU performance art is the lowest form of performance art, what does that tell you? I don't need an abacus to know it adds up to "Score one for Oasis."

3. /Black Monk Time/ was more innovative than /Rubber Soul/. |
|
I think you would agree with me on that.

8. Air Supply was the Oasis of their time. |

We all remember, of course, that Air Supply was more popular than the Beatles in the 70s. And in some ways lyrically better: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=2631362

This 2 minute, 52 second clip has more musical innovation and heartfelt soul that anything in the entire Oasis oeuvre: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujFwO66GByA
