6. It's pronounced "can" like a tuna can.... No "s", no "ah"...
Just "can".

And it's in the south of france. Not southern france.

9. well.... I live here. And we all say "can" like a tuna can. You may hear
differing accents that affect the "a", but it is never pronounced "kahn" by the locals, who are known as 'can-wahz...' The 'ah' sound in that case is affected by the 'ois', as in a Nicoise "Nee-swahz" salad.

And the 'a' isn't the flat out "aye" that we might employ in a bronx type 'a'. It really is somewhere in between, but not quite to the 'ah'.

My favorite is Golf St. Juan.

Golf is pronounced as you see it, St. is pronounced 'san' the same as "can" and Juan is pronounced Zhjoowahn.

Golf San-Zhjoowahn. Nice little seaside town next to Antibes. Now, Antibe is pronounced "Ahnteeb" and I dated a fella ages ago who's last name was Antibe. But, he pronounced it "an-tibbee" with the accent on the "An".

I love words.

11. well....hard to argue with that
guess I'll open a Kahn of tuna to make the crow a little more palatable

it was a long time ago, anyway

that's my story, and I'm sticking to it

14. I'm John. My French mother called me Zhunnnnn
which I found delightful, all those years ago (study tour of France between junior and senior years of HS, 1979)

16. How sweet!!! I also like this region's pronounciation of 'z' which somehow
turns into a 'thhhh' sound with whisper sort of 'z' in it, but more like a lisp! It appears to be a regional affectation among the city and town locals, not the rurals.

Love this place. The french totally rock.

7. Le Midi
I don't think I ever heard anyone call Southern France either of those things (in French). Either Le Midi or La Provence, far as I remember.
