Why do people hate The Killers?

They get soundly trashed in LTTEs and some reviews. I don't understand it. Here in the Lounge recently there was a poll on the greatest rock band and the Beatles won. The Killers kind of remind me of British pop a little. The Beatles were pop personified. "I wanna hold your hand"? That wasn't deep.

Strange. Anyone Killer-haters (or lovers) care to chime in?

1. Because they're lame and derivative?

Nothing really too original about ripping off the sound of British electro-rock/pop from the late '80's/early '90's. It's already been done, and done better.

And no fair comparing them with the Beatles, either. The Beatles get much more credit for originality.

Anyway, I really like them. I love that they put Eric Roberts in "Mr, Brightside" too. He just gets better with age.

Is it yours? I have a mini lop and he loves to lay on the bed just like that, but only when he is very comfortable. He is a very jumpy fellow. Lol, I said 'jumpy'.

You should listen to the killers. They almost have an 80's sound.

My kid also listens to Saosin, Senses Fail, Taking Back Sunday, and Matchbox. I can't really listen to the music, though - I'm too busy yelling at punks to get off my lawn. ;)

8. I like them.

They remind me of New Order somewhat. Maybe they're a little on the derivative side, but I think they do it well. Apparently so does New Order, since they've performed together. Meh, any band is going to have naysayers. Some are just way more vocal than others.

10. I don't hate them

For the record, I've never said disparaging things about them on the board. In fact, I like several of their songs and I don't begrudge anybody for liking them.

But what DOES annoy me has less to do with the band and more with a lot of their fans; I dislike indie-music snobs as it is, but I find that many Killers fans are young OC-watching teens who think they're being original and unique even though they're being just as bandwagony as everybody else.

I'm a bona fide music nerd, with pretensions and such. I get drunk and discus the music theory and deep lyrical meanings of indie bands. And I like The Killers. Why? Because they're fun. They may be derivative, poppy shit, but they're fun derivative, poppy shit.

I think Voltaire had it right: "Anything too silly to be said can be sung." I think a lot of musinistas think the absurd lyrics their favorite bands sing are oh so important, and they see the Killers as silly and poppish. Me? I don't care for lyrics, most of the time they're not understandable, and when they are, they're nonsensical anyway. The Killers rock as musicians, and I love 'em.
