Tonight, I performed oral....... |
|
surgery on myself.....
A temporary filing/crown had worked it's way out of my tooth which was installed after a root canal from about two years ago....
It seems they jam these little spiked polls into your jaw in order to provide an anchor for the filing....
Well, when the material started to crumble, as it should since it was temporary, the spike was left to torment my tongue...
Oh it was raw...
My tongue, that is....
So since we no longer have dental coverage and I do not have the thousand dollars needed to fix my tooth, I decided to take matters into my own hand....
I stood before the bathroom mirror, alcohol sanitized tweezers in hand, flashlight shining into the mirror reflecting back into my mouth, and worked out the spike...
And then I rinsed with Listerine three or four times...
I felt like King Arthur....
The kingdom of my mouth was saved...

3. I didn't use the nail clippers.... |

I used Mrs. WCGreens eye brow tweezers...
I soaked it in alcohol.....
It was stainless steel...
And, there was no open wound involved....

Um...are you Okay? That could be dangerous.....
Honestly, I wondered what you were going to do about your tooth....
You are a much braver soul than I!
I have to premedicate with antibiotics before a simple cleaning since I have a small mitral valve prolapse.....
Never mind something like what you just did! :scared:

4. The tooth is dead..... |
|
No pain involved....
except for my tongue....
I was more worried the spike would work itself out of my tooth in the middle of the night and I would aspirate....

5. Well.....I see your point..... |
|
And it is well taken!
Aspirating something like that would be awful.....even possibly fatal.
You are doing the best job possible under the circumstances.....IMHO...

They make this stuff called Dent-temp. Its the stuff that your dentist would use as a temporary filling. You can buy it at Walgreen's for about $2.00. You just dry off the area and tap it in with your fingers/and a wooden stick. Get the type that does not need to be mixed. I had no job and no money when I had a filling fall out. Used this stuff till I could afford to go see the dentist. Each temporary filling would last about a week or so, it was a "tooth saver" for me, kept the area clean and dry till my finances turned around enough to get some real medical help.

12. Funny, the exact same thing happened to me! |
|
It was about a month ago. I put up with it all weekend, the spike digging into my tongue. It was all I could think about. I was miserable. This was Easter Week, and my dentist was booked to the max. Couldn't get off work to go to my dentist, so I went to this dentist who does emergencies and he filled it in...I let him put in a new crown.
WC you are very brave.
Maybe you missed your calling. Should have been a surgeon, or an oral surgeon, or something like that.
