Did You Hear About The "Other-cott" Of The DaVinci Code? |
|
I think I saw it on Olberman's show... but some woman (a nun? an ex-nun?) was telling people not to "boycott" The DaVinci Code... but to "other-cott" the movie and to see "Over The Hedge" instead.
:wtf:
How will they know? How can they track such a thing? Do you think that this group will point to the gross ticket sales of "Over The Hedge" as some sort of tangible proof that people are actually "other-cotting" the DaVinci Code movie?

1. I read in the paper that "The DaVinci Code" made 29 million on Friday |

I don't know how they could possibly track the ticket sales of an "other cott". It would be impossible. Good luck on that one, I guess.
And it looks like "Da Vinci" had a smashing weekend, box office wise. If it pulled in 29 million in only one day, that's damned good.

<< I don't know how they could possibly track the ticket sales of an "other cott". >>
Just assume ALL the ticket sales from "Over the Hedge" are from DaVinci Code boycotters, uh, I mean 'othercott-ers'.
Othercott? :eyes: I doubt it's possible that they could have invented a more ridiculous sounding word.
I wonder if these folks realize that they are only contributing to the hype and stirring up even MORE interest. First the UK trial... now this? All for FREE?? It's a publicist's dream!
I think it's all rather amusing. I can't wait for the DVD!

You do have a point. Not thinking all that clearly (chalk said cloudy thinking to some alcohol consumption this weekend, I guess)
"Othercott" is a cutesy sounding coined word that I really don't think will go anywhere. It is silly.
These people who always threaten with boycotts of this or that (usually launched by right wing fundies) never learn. They always seem to generate even more publicity for that film or television series...and as you said, it's FREE publicity. That 29 million on Friday had to had resulted in part because of the publicity. Had to. It will be interesting to see what the box office will be in the next few weeks. The reviews of "Da Vinci" have been mediocre, at best.

I saw "Over the Hedge" yesterday (I enjoyed it) and there's a bit of a joke at the expense of praying at one point in the movie. Really minor thing but it was one joke I laughed out loud at. :)
I wont give any spoilers here though.
On Edit: No I was not "other-cotting" just for those trying to track such a thing. :)
