Update on my sister with cancer situation
As some of you know, my oldest sister was recently diagnosed with lung and liver cancer and is very ill. She's in Vermont and I'm in California and complicating things, my daughter is getting married on June 3rd in St. Paul and I just had knee surgery last month. Whew!! Never rains but it pours.

My SO and I are driving to St. Paul for the wedding and I've decided to take an extra week off and continue on to Vermont so I can see my sister. It will most likely be my last chance to see her alive  and I'd rather see her alive than go out to her funeral. Also, I'll be able to bring some photos of the wedding for her to enjoy and help her to feel like a small part of it, at least, and she'll be able to meet my SO who I've been with for 5 years but whom she's never met. I only hope that she makes it until then - the doctors give her 6 months at the most but it could be as little as a month. So I'm feeling pretty pressed.

This has all been so weird - it's almost poetic in an odd (and tragic) way, the juxtaposition of beginning (the wedding) and ending (my sister's imminent death). Surreal. Anyway, that's what's going on in my world. Never a dull moment - just once, I'd like to know what mundane boredom is like!

1. That must be unbelievably hard
Dealing with such a contrast in feelings. Happiness for your daughter, sorrow for your sister. Try to enjoy your time with each of them.

3. Take care of yourself along the way.
I hope your daughter's wedding is beautiful and that you'll be able to share it with your sister. Try to treasure your time with both of them.
