ginbarn says the acting is so bad that you simply must watch.

Oh, yeah - and you get to see no-talent actors die.

And lots of tweaked science, too. Don't forget the tweaky science.

1. AAAAAAA!! WTF?!?
You all know what plate tectonics is about, right? I hope so.

They just told the most boneheaded story about the re-formation of Pangaea being in progress on this turkey of a film. Who's the consulting geologist? Carl Baugh?!?

2. But the EFFECTS man, the EFFECTS!
Who needs a storyline that makes sense when you can watch Mt. Rushmore crumbling?! :sarcasm:

3. It's really awful.
Which is exactly why I'm watching it. Wooden acting, every lame disaster movie cliche imaginable, bad science, cheesy special effects. What's not to like? It was especially cool when the little toy cruise ship capsized in the swimming-pool tsunami.

4. I think I lost 10 IQ points just for the fake science explanation in...
this movie. "Accelerated Plate Movement"? What the fuck type of shit is THAT?

6. See, it's like this: It's *reverse* plate tectonics. It's going backwards.
And of course, when that happens it goes a whole lot faster. What's so complicated about that?

It goes to eleven: It's one louder.

7. I'm still trying to figure that one out...
OK, so the North American Plate and the Pacific plate reverse direction, and this is supposed to tear North America apart? Tell me I'm missing something here.

You know, if they wanted to make a MUCH better Earthquake movie, they could base it on a realistic premise, the West Coast is overplayed, so they think of this bullshit. Why couldn't they have made a disaster movie with the New Madrid faultline instead? It can go ballistic REALLY quick, and be totally devastating, Memphis and St. Louis, wiped off the map and Chicago being HEAVILY damaged. Not to mention the massive flooding of the entire Mississippi river valley when the Mississippi reverses flow like it did last time a quake hit. THAT would be a cool movie, not this bullshit.

26. There was a book
I read a few years ago called "8.4" set in the New Madrid fault area. Used a nuke to stop the shaking like in the original "10.5." Makes me think the 10.5 movies are based on that book.

5. Is this a sequel to 10.0?
Wasn't that last year - something like "10.0, the End of the World?"

11. Yeah...it was titled 10.5 also..
this takes place shortly after that event. Supposedly, the previous 10.5 quake was just a beginning.

Dang dang dang, I thought that they were only repeating part 1 where CA breaks off after unsucessfully fusing the plates with nuclear bombs. Sounds like I missed so much last night. Dang, so what happened? And how did that man get out of the car sunk in sand in part 1?

18. Thanks! I had to step out while he was getting a flashlite, missed it.
All I ould figure is that the engine end was heavier so sunk faster, leaving the back end of the light SUV to bob to the surface of the sand, not sure what role the flashlight played, but sunroof sounds better. Wasn't it under sand? never mind. I am looking forward to part 2 on Tues, thanks for setting my mind at ease about the dad. Now I can sleep soundly tonight.

The sinking stopped, and I'm pretty sure he got out through the top of the car. He was covered in sand.

20. I must say I was rooting for the sand, but knew he had to get out. Cliche
I mean come on. Not only did he have to reconcile with the teenager, but with the governer, showing that he was just silly for leaving and reunite reforming that nucular family. I won't get into the psuedoscientists being ex-lovers necessitating they both needed to survive. Or how the doctor found his family in that huge camp. Or why the earth split away from where all these main characters were running in circles in the camp. But those special effects! I can hardly wait to watch part 2 tomorrow. MrUP had to keep coming out to see what I was laughing so hard about.

21. My favorite part last night was the cruise ship.
I kept thinking, gawd, this is reallly low budget. Special effects have come a long way- they didn't *really* need to do the boat in a bathtub thing, did they?

22. More to look forward to.
rubber science: when the air is full of CO2, not enough O2 to breath, put on a filter mask and you can breath fine? I liked when the space needle was falling due to a gas bubble under seattle(part1) and the guy on the bike is outriding it! The suspense! Don't look away! I am looking forward to part 2.

15. I watched it!
Even the little cars falling into the sink holes. I'm sure they were hotwheels. It was wonderfully awful. I loved it and laughed all the way through it. Nothing better than a cheesy disaster movie. I've seen Volcano five times, easy. Not that I ever actually put it in the player, I just see it on the satellite selection menu and I'm hooked.

Maybe this means part 1 (CA falls off, how does the gov's husband get out of that car?) Tues? On edit, the 23rd is Tues, looks like it is on on Tues, according to NBC, but not really sure. Maybe it is fractured into Wed? How did he get out of that car?

23. Like a wreck on the highway--you know it's horrible, but you have to look!
I wasn't intending to watch it, but hit the opening minutes. Bad science! Cheesy special effects! Intelligent women reduced to emotionally crippled whiners! Men with testosterone poisoning! Frank Langella chewing on the scenery!

Yes, I'll tune in again on Tuesday. What's not to like?

25. This is a bad movie...
I just couldn't help but catch the last part of it. What is it with people and cheesy, pseudoscience disater movies. I tried watching Category 7 on CBS but it was so boring and stupid I couldn't bear it. Hurricanes and tornadoes clashing into each other and now earthquakes?
