got a favorite Clematis?
(no, this isn't a sex thread or woman's issue)

I like all Clematis.
So many colors, shapes, sizes, all beautiful.
Recently I bought Bee's Jubilee :

If you have a picture of your own, or one you like, post it.
I know this isn't the Gardener's Forum, but I want to give Loungers flowers today.

Helps to have a green thumb like she did, too.
She would just stick something in a coffe can and it would look like a county fair blue-ribbon winner in no time at all. :D

6. have you heard, *heads in the sun and feet in the shade* ?
that's the way they like to grow.

I didn't know it when I planted my first one years ago and it did great. I was lucky.
It's base is shaded and the vines grow up into the sunshine.

18. Easy trick
Plant them next to a boulder. I have plenty of boulders on my property so it's pretty simple. I know they're not easy to come by in other reigions, but you can buy them fairly cheaply from garden centers anywhere. Besides, boulders are fabu-maximus anchors in the garden and are worthy of naming.

Yes, I name rocks.

3. i like those big purple ones. i'm thinking
of pairing one with a big-flowered white one i have climbing over deck railing,
but i might use a different shade of purple than the one you posted.
the white one i have is very similar to the one in this pic and i like the two together.

i'm trying to decide where to plant the Bee's Jubilee, and i'd like to get a small-flowered variety too.

They're really sensitive to our horribly hot summers here in Mississippi.

14. Clematis armandii (evergreen clematis) - Armand's clematis.
Watch out for this vine! It grows like crazy! Mine covered three fence panels, an arbor and climbed into a tree! Can be subject to stem split in colder climes. Tha's what did mine after about 5 years. It has incrediblu fragrant white blooms in March. :)

40. that site-
i had been there earlier in the day but didn't see that page. thanks for pointing it out.

i really like that pic you posted above and one of those pinks is very similar to my new Bees Jubilee, so it's nice to see how it looks with the others.

some of the clematis & rose combos at that page are prettier than i imagined they'd be but i still like clematis combos better.

in this one, i like the top left combo - nice colors!

another pretty combo

i like the clematis in this picture

41. we just planted a white climbing rose near our front door
and I was looking for more places to plant clematis, with a "shady foot" and "sunny head." Maybe once the rose is more established I'll put another clematis in.

I love the concept of intertwining vines! :hi:

43. climbing roses are beautiful
i like them better than standard roses which intimidate me. I have a standard rose that I don't take care of and it's starting to look like a bushy climbing rose. I really should fertilize it so it gets more blooms than last year. the foliage looks great.

When I figure out a place to put a climbing rose (probably after some changes i hope to get to this summer), maybe i'll plan to add a clematis at some point. I wouldn't have even considered it if it weren't for this thread. :)

How is your rose planted? against some trellising or post?

intertwining vines are great as long as kudzu stays out of the mix. ;)

45. hmmm
well it's little yet, but apparently goes up to 6-10 ft, so we'll have to pick a big trellis!

I have a Queen Elizabeth that is totally out of control and has outgrown the small trellis I foolishly picked. Both roses are up against the house.

23. I have a happy clematis
My clematis was an ole sour puss just hanging out at the back fence never blooming - not dying but just moping around until I moved it last year. I stuck it aside the chain link fence and the blossoms were just amazing. Now I run to check it every day and just this morning noticed it is cover with buds. Whoo hoo!

I don't trim around the base of it - the tall grass shades the roots.

I have heard about putting clematis next to a rose bush and both blossoms together are spectacular.

30. do you have a local nursery with knowledgeable staff ?
a local nursery will only sell what will grow in your area
and they'll be able to tell you if any are easier than others...
from there go by growing habit, color, shape, size.
If you don't have a good local nursery and want to order one online,
check the 'net for what's good in your zone or Gardeners Forums (there's a DU one)

i only have one planted that i planted years ago and luckily it liked the spot.
It's got huge white flowers. I'm not sure of its name, but it looks like the one in reply#3.
I hardly ever prune it, and it loves to cover the side of my deck!

my new one (of the original message) is supposedly easy to care for
but I can't recommend it yet.

sorry I'm not of more help... i'm enjoying seeing which ones the people here like though!

:hi:

27. can I share my funny clematis story?
when my first child was born, my husbands step mother came to visit to help out with the baby because I had been very ill.

She commented on the beautiful flower outside...(my clematis was in bloom) and I told her what it was...and she said..."hmmm I had a disease once that sounded like that"...and I got all quiet and tried to change the subject..."hmmm...what was that ..." ...she kept mumbling...and finally she burst out..."chlamydia!"....and my husband and I just sat there in silence...all the while I wanted to go to my bedroom and bury my head in my pillows to let out my laughter....

It's growing like crazy and beats the lame clematis my landlord planted at our home. That clematis has only a spattering of sickly looking purple flowers. I'd love to know what our neighbor did to get hers to bloom so prolifically!

home for many years to Allen Toussaint's famed Sea-Saint recording studio.

Maybe you could find something recorded there and have it playing while you admire your floral clematises (clemati?)...
