"With 10 Pages of Shocking Photos!" |
|
I don't know. I love True Crime books. I am a serious True Crime buff, and in my off-time have been devouring these books. Before you ask me what kind of monster I am, let me assure you I'm one of the nicest monsters you'll ever meet. I read these books less out of the compulsion to watch train wrecks than out of a need to see justice done. It feeds the need to see justice done on a larger scale- obviously regarding our government.
Maybe I've been desensitized, but when I open every True Crime book to the photo section, I'm NEVER shocked.
Here's a "composite sketch" of the Shocking Photos section I've gleaned from these books:
Page 1: This is a picture of the murder victim fresh out of college, wearing a cap and gown and smiling proudly & sweetly into the camera.
Page 2: Here's the victim later, relaxing on a yacht with her husband. They're holding drinks and she's wearing a bikini and his sailor cap. Here's another one of the husband playing with the Golden Retriever, "Buddy".
Page 3: A picture of the aerial view of the crime scene- a clearing in the woods with a circle drawn in magic marker on the picture. Another picture below of the tree near where the deed was done.
Page 4: Two mug shots of the perpetrators, both of them looking angry and disheveled. One turns out to be the husband, and the other is a thin-lipped woman with big hair.
Page 5: Here are 4 shots: two of the perpetrators being led in handcuffs up the courthouse steps. Two of the state and defense lawyers. The state lawyer looks sweet and kind. The defense lawyer looks like a real shit.
Page 6: The arresting officer sitting behind his desk, looking contemplative. A picture of the judge below.
Page 7: Family shots of the victim's parents at Christmas, unwrapping presents.
Page 8: Pictures of different angles of the scarf that was used to do the deed.
Page 9: A shot of the house the victim and her husband had lived in, and a photo of a fingerprint.
Page 10: A picture of the gravestone of the victim.
Like I said, I'm not some bloodthirsty ghoul who craves gory photos of a real story- If I wanted "gore" I could always watch "Ghost Ship" again. But I am not shocked by the photos in the middle section. Almost ever. How weird is that?

The trailer dude's dumpster outfit or Britney Spears' favorite get-up, the insta-pulldown towel.

|
I'll tell my favorite Abraham Lincoln story (again):
Abraham Lincoln as a young man was walking in the woods when he encountered a man who was hunting with a rifle. The man took a long look at Abe and said, "Sir, you must prepare yourself to die, for I have vowed a solemn oath before God that the first time I encountered a man uglier than myself, I would shoot him!"
Abe immediately unbuttoned his shirt and stuck out his chest and said, "Sir, fire at will. For if indeed I am uglier than you, I don't deserve to live."

I will admit to having a similar fascination with crime stories - and I'm sure we're not alone since the stuff sells so well. ("In Cold Blood" sure was a famous book.)
However, I really hope we both avoid thinking that Ted Bundy was the "greatest" mass murderer ever, or that Ed Gacy was "better" at murder than Ted Bundy.

NNadir of course, could speak of ultimately horrible mass murderers. Can we start with the mass murderer occuppying our White House?
Do they offer us the shocking photos of these true crimes? No. They bury them. That is a sad thing not only for the aficianados like you and I, but the world at large.

|
... so the minute I saw the thread title, I KNEW what this would be about.
You've got those 'shockng photographs' down pat!
And depending on the outcome of the crime, you can add:
page 11: Photo of convicted murderer in prison visiting room with parents, with the caption: "To this day, Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So maintain their daughter's innocence."
