Veterans: Where did you take basic training? |
|
I ask because I'm curious how long it would take before two DUers discovered they went through training in the same company, possibly even the same platoon and maybe possibly even at the same time. Since it's my thread, I'll go first.
Basic training: Fort Knox, KY; D-15-4 (2nd platoon), Jan-Mar 1974. Advanced training (AIT): Fort Gordon, GA; A-2-SESS(Southeastern Signal School), Mar-Jul 1974. Permanent party: USACC detachment, Fort Monroe, VA, Jul 74 to discharge.
I doubt anyone will have been in any of the same companies as me. But I'll wager two DUers are going to find they were in the same company and maybe there at the same time. I just wonder how long it'll take a thread to find out which two. John It is now 25 days, 20 hours and 18 minutes to FUNDAY XII.

I don't remember the platoon or anything like that, because that was more than 25 years ago.

Summer 1951
BM1 Crater was the company Commander. I do not recall the company number.
Keeping in touch with shipmates is fairly easy via various formal associations.

5. Was your Fort Gordon AIT Signal or Military Police? |
|
Those were the two schools there in 1974, anyhow. Hey, here's a true note that maybe sheds some light on why I'm asking -- my brother Chuck was an MP and AITed at Gordon. But more interestingly, he entered the Army in Oct 72 (about 15 months ahead of me) and went through Basic in the same company and, even, platoon as I did. I figure the odds against that have to be astronomical. John Several of the drill sergeants remembered him which, due to our funny German surname, didn't work out all that well for me.

7. infantry/ jungle warfare |
|
though it wasn't jungle-like, they were trying to acclimatize us to the heat. i think they closed the infantry school after they pulled out of viet nam.
my primary MOS was 11B.
there were signal & MP schools there at the time, as there are now, i believe.
that's a VERY funny story about your brother. guess you didn't think so at the time, though...
