and N CA ---never been to that part of the country but heading there tomorrow for two weeks...Besides the Smithsonian and catching a game or two...what else?

Any good restaurants, Jazz or blues clubs, any place to go on the water (ocean) etc...Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

1. C&O Canal: Great Falls
C&O Canal is a bike path that starts in Georgetown and ends 184 miles later, runs next to the Potomac River. 20 miles outside of DC it includes Great Falls which are quite nice to look at. National Park service website has more info

3. Crab cakes!!!
And you could spend two days in the national art museum (I can't think of the name: but it might just be "national art museum" or "National gallery"), and a week at the Smithsonian.

4. The inner harbor in Baltimore is really nice.
All of the museums in DC will also keep you busy. And don't forget the monuments also!!!

5. Little Italy
Go to Little Italy in Bal'mer for dinner one night. It's next to the Inner Harbor anyway.

6. Check out The National Aquarium
It's in The Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Also Edgar Allen Poe's Grave (Downtown Baltimore) and Fort McHenry (In the Bay, take the "water taxi", nice boat ride). Enjoy!

8. U street for Jazz

Check out the Bohemian Caverns. And if you do go don't forget to go to Ben's Chili bowl for an after show snack.
Blues Alley is another nice club that is in the Georgetown area.
Spy museum is something different.

I'm assuming your going to hit all the usual monuments/memorials. If you have a car go to the Air and Space museum annex by Dulles airport. Its huge and has some nice exhibits.

9. In Baltimore...

The Inner Harbor -- most of it is lame, but Federal Hill has a great view, and the American Visionary Art Museum is amazing. The Aquarium and the Science Center are also nice. You should catch a show at the Imax. The only other good thing down there is four floors of Barnes and Noble.

Fells Point and Little Italy.

If you like museums, you should also check out the Walters.

You can listen to the students at the Peabody Conservatory -- they have some great concerts.

Catch a show at the Mechanic Theater or the Lyric Opera House.

If you like clubs check out Power Plant Live -- but that is a cheesy drunken college student scene.

The Basilica of the Assumption is beautiful. It doesn't matter if you are religious or not.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

10. If you like classical music
especially Shostakovich and Mozart, come hear our concert:

We're far from being the San Francisco Symphony; but our tickets are only $16...

Check out Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay. You can rent sailboats or fishing boats. The nearest Atlantic beaches are about 2 hours from there.

I have to go to work now; but I'll post more ideas later. If you want, send me a private message. :hi:

11. The National Cathedral
I've lived here a long time but had never been to the National Cathedral until a couple of years ago. Walked in on the 4th of July and just followed along with one of the docents giving a tour. It was fascinating...not to mention stunning. I didn't know Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan were buried there..and there's a moon rock imbedded in one of the stained glass windows. Lots of interesting stuff. Of course, it's free like most things in DC.

12. the Library of Congress...
...which is one of the most beautiful building interiors you'll ever see. It's right adjacent to the Capitol.

Are you a walker? One day I walked from the zoo all the way down to the Capitol. It was just great. Lots, lots to see.

Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown, if you have the time and a car. It's a couple of hours Southeast.

Mt. Vernon. I think that's a must.

Don't be afraid to use the subways. They are clean and safe.
