Anyone here see Spike Lee's "Bamboozled"?
IF so...what did you think?

Personally I loved it, and think it may be his greatest work...

1. Yes. It was a fantastic piece of work.
I also agree it may be his greatest work, and ergo one of the most important pieces of film ever.

It's a shame more people haven't seen it.

2. That movie makes you think...plain and simple
No matter what your thoughts on race relations are, that movie makes you think...and think deeply.

It doesn't give any answers...but instead makes you think long and hard...in short my kind of flick.

3. As does any good satire.
But it doesn't just make you think, it invokes an emotional response.

5. Definitely
And on the directing side, his use of Jazz in that movie was incredibly haunting.

That movie will make you laugh and cry in anguish within minutes of each other...

4. I always mean to rent it...
but as I cruise through the video store...I never remember to look for it.

I think it would definitely be up my alley...

Yes, Sir!

I'll write myself a postie note. The SO is on leave this week, and I've been looking for movies to rent!

7. Also...
just compare Bamboozled to that Oscar winning crapfest "Crash."

9. Haven't seen Crash
It looked paint-by-numbers to me...so I avoided it.

12. I saw it. It's as good as "Do the right thing." Really THAT good.
It's sad to say that alot of "African-American" TV shows have almost as much racist stereotypes as "Cotton Land" (wasn't that the name of the show?)

13. Mantan- The New Millenium Minstrel Show.
And it's set in a watermelon patch, not cottonfields.

17. Thank you! I confused it with the Saturday Night Live Sketch "CottonLand"
Remember that one with Stevie Wonder?

14. I saw it at a movie theater when it was first released.
Lots of black folks got up and walked out about halfway through. They found the whole "Man-Tan and Sleep N Eat' thing not very funny.

It's certainly his most provocative film and my personal favorite. You can see the 'Network' influence throughout, especially the ending.

16. I remember liking it a lot --
until the last 10 or 15 minutes. This frequently happens with me and Spike; I love the way he tells a story, but I don't think he has a good handle on how to actually end a story.

This is probably why my favorite of his was 25th Hour -- which was based on a novel which the author himself adapted.

18. I thought it was pretty good.
I don't care much for Spike's movies but this one was pretty good. Malcolm X was also good.

19. I read something about Spike today I couldn't believe
he's directing a CBS show ("Shark") starring, ugh, James Woods -- neocon crazy and infamous woman hater.
Why, Spike, why?

20. I think he's given up on trying to find common ground
His early flicks (up to Bamboozled) were all about finding a common ground for racial dialogue, and Americans on both sides never "got it." After his full on assault that was "Bamboozled" tanked, I think he gave up and decided to cash in on his God-given talent. God knows he tried, and he deserves his sucess.
