3. Thanks.
Been at my job for almost seven years, and haven't interviewed in a while. Kinda nervous. We'll see what happens.

8. Good Vibes to you
I had an interview today and stressed the entire day.

My best advise would be to google Sample Interview Questions and Answers.
Read it over and if you can take one item to use it may just be the edge you need.

I have a hard time talking about myself - being the modest "team player"
So in past interviews the "Tell about a time when you..." threw me.
And since I am so content and almost perfect..when they asked me what I need to improve on -
I said "Nothing"

So today I did read through the prep questions and really had a great interview.

And I would also advise a test run in you interview clothes.

So the interview today went great.
Small privately owned company-
They PAY for health care.
The opening question was "Do you believe you can have fun at a job and still be productive/"

Good New to come soon.
We all deserve it!

15. Thanks, guys.
Did a drive-by tonight. It's 4.9 miles (one-way) from my home. If I get this job, I'll save $ on tolls and gas. Sweet!

16. Don't be nervous - be conversational!
Interviewing myself now; first one an old guy like me did in a very long time was a sphincter tightener, the next one I said, the heck with it - the answers may not be perfect, but they never are. No matter how prepared you are. Be the kind of person they want to work with: bright, good sense of humor; thoughtful; not all the answers, but the qualities to find those answers. That will get you the job, my friend, not some laundry list of accomplishments.

29. I was really nervous, but they didn't ask any stupid questions
Like the one's that start: "Tell me about a time when..." or the classical "What is your biggest weakness?"
We had a conversation about the job, what I wanted in a job, and about what I have done in my positions and in school.
The interviewer said that I would be hearing from them very soon.

31. I think so
It is at a smaller family owned company. I would get to do more things than I am doing now and have oppurtunities to explore my interests.
If I was offered the job at a decent rate of compensation, I think that I would take the job.
I don't know if they are interviewing other candidates or not. I interviewed with the president of the company. I only sent my resume a week ago. Whether I get the job or not, I think that I am not going to be strung around like I have at other places that I have interviewed with.

32. Did they talk salary? They asked the dreaded question, and like
I said, I was disappointed with the salary range they were offering (top of it is less than what I'm making now; plus I'd be supporting two offices (rather than just the one I'm supporting now)).

34. They had me fill out a brief application
Which included the question expected salary and my salary/wage history but not much else. I know that he looked at it but he didn't comment. I expect that if I get an offer that it will be in that range. I am not sure if I should have put a higher figure. One can never tell what a company is willing to pay, especially in my case with the company being smaller. He did say it was salaried but that I would get overtime pay if I worked more than 45 hours per week. He also mentioned profit sharing and merit based raises.
I have experienced what you have though: The company wanting to pay me less than I am making for potentially more work. Sometimes the figure is so low that I wonder who they tricked into accepting the position, probably someone right out of college or someone who has been unemployed for a while.
I am sorry that the potential position isn't what you wanted for the compensation.

20. Thanks; OK here's the low-down:
Edited on Wed May-24-06 11:28 AM by SCRUBDASHRUB
Interview was at 10 AM. Lasted one hour.

Fortunately, I'm in the position to be somewhat picky, as I am currently employed.

Pros:
Office is only 5 miles from my house (would cut down on my commute, plus tolls that I currently pay).
Opportunity to learn more about a new facet of the industry as well as part of my job (editing website).
401K (company I work for doesn't have to contribute, so I didn't bother rolling over mine from my previous employer)
Nice office decor (beats the toxic mold office space where I work now).
Free parking (already have that now, though).

Cons:

Hours: I am not a morning person. Hours are Mon-Thursday 7:30-5:30; Friday 8:30-12:30 year-round.

Salary: The dreaded salary subject came up. He asked me what range I was looking for. I put it back in his court. He gave me the range he had in mind. The top of his range is less than what I'm making now ( by 1K) and I already, based on research I've done and ads I've seen for similar jobs with less experience wanted, am underpaid. I cited two ads in the industry and gave him the range, and his mouth dropped. I have 10 years of experience in the field. I lowered my expectation by 5K when I gave my range and told him I would expect to be paid market value for my years of experience and contacts I bring to the company.

Stress / Workload: I'd be supporting (doing marketing for) not one, but two offices with five times more people than I am now. Also, occasional out-of-town travel (don't do that now).

So, that's the deal. He said he'd have to re-evaluate most likely the range, though they have some more people to interview.

25. I think I'd wait to hear if he has a better offer, salary-wise.
I really believe that the "pro" of being close to home will not offset the "con" of having to start so early in the a.m. and it's going to bother you over time if you're not well compensated.

26. I think you're right. I'm used to having more flexibility, and
their work schedule is very rigid. Plus in terms of my lifestyle needs, I have some health issues and I have dr. appts. every 2 weeks; granted they're usually scheduled at 5 pm, but that means I'd need to be sure they are always on a Friday; good luck with that, right?

24. Y'all, I choked (literally, not as in "wigged out") during my
interview. I got a hairball or something in my throat, and the guy had to get me some water. How embarassing! I handled it OK, though. Never happened to me before. Nice, huh? Surpised I didn't choke when he said how much they wanted to pay?!

33. Other than the choking what do you think?
Having some kind of physical problem is actually one of my fears for interviews. My mouth got a little dry and I felt nervous, but other than that I did not have any problems like choking, passing gas, vommitting, fainting, having diarrhea, or hiccupping.

36. Update: the guy who interviewed me emailed me today and
Edited on Thu May-25-06 06:33 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
asked for references.

My biggest hesitation is the schedule.

Decided I can't do it. I can't see myself getting in at 7:30 in the morning. Call me a baby, but I'm not a morning person.

37. Here's what I wrote back:
Dear XXX:

Thank you for interviewing me yesterday. I enjoyed meeting with you as well.

While I believe I would bring a lot of experience and make many positive
contributions to your firm, I have decided to withdraw myself from
consideration for the ______ position. It was after much
deliberation that I realized I am in need of a "standard" work schedule that
offers some flexibility.

Thank you again for taking the time to meet with me. I wish you the very
best in finding the right candidate to continue to grow your firm.

Best regards,
xxxx
