9. It was Oprah who marketed it. She is the one who stands to profit.
She admitted it in an interview on GMA.

Those were HER cameras....filming every move. To cash in later.

on edit, I really do not like Oprah's show and what it stands for, but if it means anything she is a nice person who does not big foot people around even though she owns thw world.

8. What about the non-millionaires? Aren't they "legends" too?
Edited on Mon May-22-06 11:42 PM by Beausoir
Am I supposed to be impressed by this?

It's great that she wants to fete black women. But why did they all have to be millionaires?

Where were the regular black women who make this country strong...every damn day?

What a ridiculous exercise in decadence.

"Look at me...I'm buying respect!"

10. How can we be anything but turned off by glitz at a time like this ...
no matter how much we may like the good work Oprah has done to elevate the consciousness and the self respect of many people.

We appear to be in the minority here. I absolutely loved it! The things Simon Cowie does are always gorgeous.
Good for Oprah...the legends deserved the tribute!

21. Absolutely NOT, Loved it
Yes, the legands did deserve the tribute. The last day on the lawn where everyone broke out in song, was a day no one will forget. I wish Rosa Parks had been there

Nothing like spending millions to celebrate yourself. The promos looked like a circle-jerk of self congratulation.

20. Every single one of those women deserved accolades.
I am an anti Oprah fan, and think she did it mainly to serve herself, but, the women feted...Ahhhh. Among our best. That alone made it worth it.

22. Some of the finest women on the planet
if I had somehow gotten in there I would have just fainted dead away.

And yet ABC somehow managed to make the coverage completely nauseating. :puke:

Did you catch the part at the gospel brunch where Oprah said "all the white people there realized that something was going on, but they weren't sure what"? Clearly none of them had ever been to New Orleans Jazz Fest, with its famed Gospel Tent...

23. I only caught a portion of it
But, I believe it was to honor African-American women legends and what she did seemed so timely. Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks were both honored not long before they left this earth. I think people try to find every reason possible to bash Oprah but I think she deserves much more credit and respect than she receives from this community.
