Suspect Allegedly Stole, Threatened To Kill Elderly Man's Dog

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- An 84-year-old man said someone stole his dog and threatened to kill it unless he paid thousands of dollars. The Volusia County man said he was scared and he didn't know what else to do but call police.

The defendant met the victim at a Wal-Mart. It was right in front of the street where the victim was told that his best friend had been dog-napped.

For the past several years, Rusty and his master have been inseparable.

"He's my companion. It's just him and I," the man said. Rusty's master did not want to be identified, but said he was the victim of an extortion scam.

Goguen allegedly said he had stolen the man's dog and it would cost $5,000 to get him back. The victim immediately drove home to check if it was true.
