What's the last music artist you listened to?
Edited on Tue May-23-06 06:58 PM by mvd
For me: The Dixie Chicks. This album is their best yet! This time, they really went into country/pop, but the great thing is that it's a CD that only the Chicks can do! They are beating Nashville at its own game. I'm proud to be a fan and to be supporting them. I don't trash my Lee Ann Womack and Toby Keith CDs just because they came out in support of Bush. I'm glad the Dixie Chicks didn't shy away from that horrible treatment.

Before that:

The Wreckers
Damone
Holly Brook (preview of upcoming CD)
The Pierces
Margot And The Nuclear So & So's

All fantastic.

Sugarland, Neil Young's new one, Little Big Town and Barber's "Adagio for Strings".

I tried to get the Dixie Chicks new release today but Target was sold out!

8. My favorite movement is “Olim lacus colueram”
“The Roasting Swan”
Translation by Rebecca Frost Davis

Once I inhabited lakes,
Once I stood out, beautiful,
When I was a swan.
Wretched! Wretched!
Now I am black
And burning fiercely.

I was whiter than snow,
More beautiful than any bird;
Now I am blacker than a crow.
Wretched! Wretched!
Now I am black
And burning fiercely.

The pyre burns me fiercely,
The servant turns, and turns me again.
Now the waiter serves me.
Wretched! Wretched!
Now I am black
And burning fiercely.

I would prefer to live in the waters,
Always under the bare sky,
Than to be submerged in this pepper.
Wretched! Wretched!
Now I am black
And burning fiercely.

Now I lie on the plate
And I am unable to fly;
I see gnashing teeth—
Wretched! Wretched!
Now I am black
And burning fiercely.

Their new album "A City by the Light Divided" is pretty kickass.

Been listening to the new Boysetsfire album, "The Misery Index: Notes From the Plague Years" as well. Some of the best political post-hardcore around right now, I think.

Ornaments of Gold Lyrics
Artist(Band):Siouxsie and the Banshees

Silver couches to recline upon
And ornaments of gold
Silver moonbeams dance in fountains
Below shining citadels
Surrounded by silver gates ascending silver stairs
Eureka on angelic prayer wafts in and scents the air
With ornaments of gold
To warm my soul from the growing cold
Ornaments of gold

We can drink from silver vessels
We can feed from silver bowls
Then I'll give you gilded treasures
Annointed by intoxicating oils
Drenched in riches unimaginable
Your splendour drips with jewels that are so beautiful

And ornaments of gold
Warm my soul from the growing cold

Adorable rewardable you
From head to toe I'd love to cover you
And smother you in ornaments of gold

In honeydew I'd love to cover you
Oh lover do bring

Ornaments of gold
Protect our hearts from this cruel world

Khash.
Ornaments of gold

45. I realize that they are a punk band...believe me. The Clash are one
of my favorite bands.

When I think of punk music, I think of Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, early Clash, Circle Jerks...to name a few.

London Calling, IMHO, is not a "punk album". To me, it is more rock n' roll...with a message,, I guess.

a greatest hits album from a couple of years ago called the very best of. Found it behind the sofa when I was cleaning today, forgot I had this 2 disc album.

I'd call it country-rock. Michelle and Jessica Harp have voices that complement each other extremely well. It's only on the irresistible "My, Oh My" that it is completely away from what Michelle did before, though.

108. You're welcome
Hope you love it!

I still want another pop/rock album from Michelle, as she is great at it, but this shows how versatile Michelle is. If she remains a member of the Wreckers, I won't mind since it's a favorite of 2006.

I also have a crush on Michelle and have developed one on Jessica Harp. I just haven't updated my official list for Jessica yet. I'm pretty sure Michelle is a Democrat. On a message board, I once asked Jessica Harp's friend Jessica Weiser about Harp's political affiliation - and Weiser said that Harp hadn't discussed politics with her.

89. Chad Wackerman
One of Frank Zappa's many excellent drummers, he later made a couple really good jazz-rock fusion CDs for some German audiophile label.

I played them because he's playing in town tonight, with guitar wizard Allan Holdsworth. I'm gonna be a shameless fanboy, with CDs and a Sharpie to collect autographs. And maybe they'll have some new stuff-- I've bought so few records in the 21st century...

97. Now there's a name I haven't heard in awhile! What a great name
for a drummer -- Chad Wackerman.

I got to meet Alan Holdsworth when I was in college. He played at our school, and then was out at the bars after the show. One of my friends was talking guitars with him and introduced me to him.

That man can play!!
