The Monkees sold out to Kool-Aid.

George Harrison said of the Monkees, "When they get it all sorted out, they might turn out to be the best."

This means that the Beatles wanted to sell out more, possibly to a chemical company or some other business that disposes of toxic waste in the middle of the forest or something. You can tell this by how they looked up at the Monkees.

Oasis looks up at no one, and would never sell one of their songs to be used for a commercial, much less appear in one.

Score one for Oasis.

1. I'm sick of Oasis/Beatles comparisons
Since Oasis tends to rip off riffs from already successful musicians, they can bite me. Oasis should look up to Radiohead.

2. Radiohead should look up to Terence Trent D'Arby.

They should start there before challenging Oasis in the arena.

3. Yes - Oasis has never sold the commercial rights to any of their songs.
With the exception of AT&T and the song "All Around The World."

7. IDK, maybe it is the same song
It's all a lot of overhyped re-hashed chords from other artists. I really hate it as a musician when I listen to an album and hear not just somebody's influences, but chord arrangements from songs I remember from my youth being ripped off fairly blatantly. Oasis isn't the only band doing it, but the hype surrounding them is so false.

I also think Tom Petty should sue The Strokes...

;)

9. The Beatles didn't sell the commercial rights to their songs
It was Michael Jackson (who owns the rights to the Beatles' song catalogue) who did that. Paul McCartney has unfavorably commented on that, too.

11. I think it is worse that they sold all their songs to Michael Jackson
They must have been hurting for money.

16. They didn't
MJ outbid Paul-and-Yoko when the company that owned the publishing copyrights to the songs (not the actual recordings) put them up for sale.

24. That is mighty weak of the beatles
I know half of them are dead, but the remaining members could have put up a decent fight. Defeated by Michael Jackson. Say no more.

17. The purpose of the song, as stated within the song...
...is "you gotta spread the word".

The song is doing just that right now, and thus it is not selling out. As a matter of fact, that song has more integrity than most rock songs because of that.

13. You know, the Milli Vanilli scandal just didn't sit right with me.
How come none of the real singers recorded were able to start careers off of the discovery that M.V. were faking it?

14. The real singers probably weren't "cute" or "marketable visually"
Edited on Wed May-24-06 04:08 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and so the record companies wouldn't give them a deal.

Because as we all know, the only thing that counts in a singer is his or her looks.

You raise a good question, though - one that I had never thought of.

21. Not quite. More like the Spice Girls, Menudo, Backstreet Boys, et al...
They sung with their own voices...

But they didn't do the music or lyrics. (though Michael Nesmith threw a bit of a wobbly and won them the chance; "Headquarters" actually being a commendable and worthy album.)

20. OMG and all the clips are from 1968, the post K-mart look... best of all,

Note the lack of PETER TORK in them.

(of course, by the time those adverts were made, he may have already vamoosed altogether...)

It's oddly sick to watch all these old dumb commercials...

23. ummm...the Monkees, pretty much by definition, CAN'T "sell out"...
they were created as/to be sell-outs.

they are a pretend band.

but i do like some of their tunes- especially the ones with mickey doing the vocals...stepping stone, last train to clarksville, etc.
