What's the weather like in Ireland this time of year?
I had mentioned before that I am going to Ireland next week. I was curious what kind of weather to expect from the end of May to mid June in Ireland. Anyone know?

1. Well, here's a quick fix
to hold you over until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

Put in the city you want, then you can view monthly projections. :hi:

6. Shite.
It hasn't stopped raining here for the last week or so, they're predicting the wettest May on record. Temperatures around 15C on a good day, grey skies and overcast most of the time. Medium range forecast (approx 1 week ahead) says more of the same.
Having said that no one comes here for the weather, so bring your woolies and enjoy yourself (I never got wet in a pub!).

Regarding your post on changing your dollars I would recommend using ATM's as one poster mentioned. Almost all of them will work with Cirrus, Visa or any of the main Credit Cards. Bring plenty of bucks as Ireland ain't cheap anymore ($5.50 - 6.00 for a pint, and if you smoke for God's sake bring plenty with you!).

8. This will give you an idea of Irish drink prices.
Edited on Thu May-25-06 07:02 AM by corksean
Bear in mind these prices are in Euro so add 27% for dollar price. Also this list is a year old so prices may have increased since.

cool man - I didn't expect such a response - but still, how much does it run you for a whiskey on the rocks in your neck of the woods?

EDIT : maybe i didn't get the last columm - I've never heard of half of those brands - but if I am reading it right - whiskey seems to be the way to go for bang for yer buck.

11. The column on the right is for "Paddy" whiskey, which is a run of the mill
nothing special whiskey. A good whiskey (Bushmills Irish, Glenfiddich or a decent American Bourbon) will set you back about $45 - 50 for a 700cl bottle in an off license or supermarket.

I'm involved with a website called www.ripoffireland.org so I happened to have that list handy. Unfortunately it wasn't a record of a particularly good pub crawl (more's the pity!).

12. Ahh man - so something like Blanton's would cost you?
How much? I'm curious - jesus, even Maker's Mark must cost you an arm and a leg - and all these years I thought the Irish had the booze a flowin'

Cheers mate - Cheers

:toast:

oh, well you do have the best beer ever brewed. :)

13. Aah, you have good taste!
Edited on Thu May-25-06 07:40 AM by corksean
Had to check those one's out, definitely not readily available here. But not as bad as I thought.
Blanton`s Silver Edition 49% - $62.95
Maker`s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon 45% - $49.50

How does that compare?

So, the OP was about the weather in Ireland and within 6 posts we're discussing drink! Now, that's Irish.

Slainte!

14. If those are dollar prices, you are not doing too bad
a bottle of Blanton's (750ml) will run you approx 50 bucks state side and Maker's will go about $27. That is of course in a shitty government controlled liquor state such as Oregon, in which I live. However, you can knock 5-10 bucks of both prices if you buy from Nevada (where I was born and raised) - So your prices aren't that nasty, especially for good, honest to goodness, Kentucky Bourbon!

Ask an Irishman the price of a pint o' stout and he'll tell you the price of a pint of any and every variety of beer in eah and every pub between Dublin and Galway Bay.

God Love the Irish!!!

16. Guinness is still seen as the working man's pint.
When the government increase duty on drink they usually take it easy on the black stuff for fear of rioting and an outbreak of sobriety.

Had a wonderful time! Where in Ireland will you be visiting? The weather for us was wonderful- only one day of rain! The rest of the time is was sunny and beautiful. We were really lucky- we spend two weeks in the British Isles and only saw one day of rain!
