At last. A book that explains NASCAR to you "girls".
Edited on Wed May-24-06 09:56 PM by Bluebear

Liz Allison, the 'girl' who wrote the book.

====

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Liz Allison wasn't sure how much appeal her latest book about NASCAR would have for men. She was worried the title, "The Girl's Guide to NASCAR," would shut out half her potential
audience.

Then she went to her first book signing at Talladega, Ala., where half the books she signed were for men.

"I would say, `Oh, is this for your wife or girlfriend?' But no, it was for them. They heard Darrell Waltrip say, `Hey, you guys need to get this book too. Put your hand over the title,'" Allison said.

"If guys can get past the title, I think they'll really enjoy it."

3. Explain NASCAR? huh? A bunch of cars going around in a circle
Edited on Wed May-24-06 09:59 PM by mrcheerful
and either the fastest driver or the luckiest driver gets a checkered flag and wins the race needs to be explained? Another joke right? btw, most guys only watch it for the accidents, no accidents=bad boring race.

6. Dunno, my pop used to be hynotized by it
and really get into the strategy of moving up the line. He'd stare at the tube glassy eyed for hours, watching those cars go around and around.

I remember when he dragged me and my mother to the Indy 500. I was five years old. To say I didn't get it was an understatement. Even the constant flow of junk food and sodas did little to cut the boredom.

If this bird can make it all palatable for bored wives, then more power to her. I'm a lost case, I'm afraid.

8. He was waiting for an accident lol. My dad was the same way as yours only
cheaper, he used to take us out to the local dirt tracks, making sure to sit on the bleachers near the third turn, where most of the track dirt would settle. Ever try to take a bath at 2am because you were covered with track dirt? BTW your 9 years old and had to sit in car for 2 hours coming back from the track. Race would end at 11, you sat in parking lot for 45 minutes so most of the other cars were gone before hitting the road.

18. I used to watch ice hockey...
...not because I like hockey. But I liked it when they got in fights.

Used to watch races at the Indianapolis Speedway. Boring...unless there was an accident or crackup.

It isn't just a 'guy' thing -- and it is furthermore NOT damned rocket science. Sheesh.

7. Well this "girl" could care less about ever learning anything about Nascar
I actually went to Talladega once and it looked like a refuge camp and the smell would knock your head off and it wasn't the smell of gas, it was the smell of nasty people! I believe many of them were just crapping where they slept or maybe even on themselves. About half the groups camped out in the tents everywhere had confederate flags flying. I will never as long as I live (unless someone pays me a lot of money or puts a gun to my head :D ) go to anything Nascar related.

20. About as stupid as basketball
Whaddya think's gonna happen next? Oh-My-God -- they ran across the court and threw the ball in the hoop. Wohda thunk it!!!

NASCAR is exactly the same, so I'm told, you don't get it unless you get it, ALL of it. Is true of most sports actually.

That's the tongue-in-cheek definition most of my NASCAR-loving friends use.

32. I have. Guess I shoulda expected it.
For the record, I have nothing against people who enjoy NASCAR. "Hilbillies turning left" is what my NASCAR-fan friends call it. Had I been serious, I wouldn't have used a smilie (at least not a smiling smilie).

No offense intended.

27. that's just fine
if you're not into it. It's just that some folks aren't content with not liking something and have to resort to stereotyping and denigrating those who do.
