2. When I was in Hawaii I snorkeled with several 5-6' sharks underneath me.
It was cool, not scary.

3. Hell yes
Using a pool at a beachfront hotel/condo is like buying a ticket to a sporting event and watching the game on the TVs in the concourses.

6. Sure I live near the Gulf
if I'm supposed to be eatten by a shark, then so be it. Better than a car accident or something.

7. When I lived on the Gulf...
I tried to stay out of the water in August because thats when all the sting rays came in...it gave the appearance that the water turned black, but in fact it was just hundreds of rays. I wasn't about to deal with that

Have all of my life, so I'm pretty used to the reality of sharks. The media tends to sensationalize these shark attack stories (like everything else) and villainize the poor creatures for being confused. They don't hunt humans, though I would imagine we can be a tasty surprise sometimes. :)

Good advice is this: if you see an advisory at the beach, stay out of the water. If you see fish jumping around, stay away. If you see fish swimming around you, stay away. You're a lot less likely to be nailed by a shark as a result.
