What purpose do poppy seeds serve except to get stuck in your teeth?
I like poppy seed rolls and poppy seed cake, but I really don't know what food purpose poppy seeds have other than getting stuck in my teeth! :grr: I mean, I know opium comes from poppy seeds, but that's not what I mean. Do they have any nutritional value, or are they just ornamental?

One of those burning life-or-death questions.... :P

1. They add texture.
Like for those people who prefer some flea with their dog.

2. That's the sanest answer anyone has given me!
I asked my sister and my mother, and they said, "It adds decoration." Well, I don't necessarily eat things because they're decorative! Texture...hmmm...

And I've always liked my dogs, with or without a side of fleas....:P

9. odd, that.
I was always told that one of the cardinal rules of food is "do not eat decorative items."

4. That's true.
Purposes of poppy seeds: getting stuck in teeth, adding texture, and giving Seinfeld a plot device for Elaine's false positive on the drug test. (Guess she's on the yam-yam! )

8. I like them too....but didn't know anything about the
nutritional value of them. They annoy me when they stick in my teeth, but I won't stop eating them... :P
