In praise of Robin Williams, who does not get enough respect |
|
Sure, he gets respect for being funny.
But IMO he truly is one of our better modern day actors, and he deserves to get more "serious" roles. Thankfully, he's been getting some: 60 Minute Photo and Insomnia come to mind; even that android movie he did he was fantastic in.
I think he should be getting more and more dramatic roles - he has a true gift for it, and we need to get him on celluloid before he dies. His portfolio of comedies is immense; I'd like to see him end his career with an equal sized portfolio of serious movies.

But will people ever stop thinking of Mork when they think of Robin Williams?

And I don't if many think of him so much any more as Mork, except we older people who were around back then.
I want to go see RV - looks very funny!

6. He's funny and has done some damn good movies... |
|
If you are old enough to remember his Mork debut on Happy Days, do you remember him on The Richard Pryor Show? It was a short lived series and a couple of specials, but that is where I remember seeing him first.

8. I'm a bit younger, and I tend to think of him as Mork. |
|
:D
It does look interesting; RV that is.

3. After he serves 1000 years in Purgatory for "Patch Adams"-- |
|
--*then* we'll discuss the matter again...but seriously(?), he is a great comic, and can act when he gets the right role...and I agree with you about "One Hour Photo", a very underrated film, one of the saddest movies I've ever seen, because of the implication that Frank Capra's America is dead and totally beyond our reach anymore...

4. One Hour Photo, not 60 Minute Photo |
|
And I agree, I'd like to see him do more serious work as well.

5. Bicenntenial Man was a really good movie. |
|
One of those movies that wasn't really promoted properly or well for that matter. When I ended up watching it, it was a heartwrenching beautiful movie. I saw Robin do stand-up years ago(80"s) and always funny as hell. When he gets the right role, beit a comedy or drama, he has great skill and delivers everytime! Everyone has an off day(movie).

7. See him on Actors' Studio? |
|
Just magic. Did 10 minutes/5 or 6 characters with the scarf from a woman in the audience.
