Do you know where your towel is?
Okay all you hoopy froods--are you having a good Towel Day? You do know that today is Towel Day, don't you? Well, for the hoopiness-challenged, or the merely forgetful or out-of-the-loop Douglas Adams fan, here's the explanation from Wikipedia:

Towel Day is celebrated every May 25 as a tribute by fans of the late author Douglas Adams. The commemoration was first held in 2001, two weeks after his death on May 11, and since then has been extended to an annual event. On this day, fans carry a towel with them throughout the day. The towel is a reference to Adams's popular science fiction comedy series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, based on the travels of Arthur Dent (from the 'mostly harmless' planet Earth), Ford Prefect (from Betelgeuse), Zaphod Beeblebrox (the President of the Galaxy, who has two heads and three arms), Trillian (formerly Tricia Macmillan, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a party and totally failed), and Marvin (a depressed and paranoid android).

2. Had my towel all day ...

Before, everyone at work thought I was a nut. Now they are sure of it.

My daughter even made a special towel for Towel Day. I was going to post a link to the pic, but she seems to have taken it down for some reason.

Anyway, all in all, a good Towel Day.

6. Too bad she took it down.
I really think a special towel IS required. I'd like to have one for next year.

The plain ol' Fieldcrest peach or blue just ain't gonna cut it.

9. Not sure why she did ...

Need to ask her. It's cool. It's green with the standard HGTTG logo impressed upon it and the inscription Towel Day May 25, 2006.

I know it's still on her camera, so when I can get my hands on it, I'm going to copy a pic. I didn't bother before because I never think of taking things down from my photobucket account.

Anyway...

A good Towel Day to you. Don't panic.

4. Damn! I could have used a reminder on this one.
Yesterday. :(

I won't miss it next year, though. I've plugged the info into my copy of the Guide under the Sub-heading "Mostly Harmless".

5. I have my towel with me at all times...

and I've had my electronic thumb out for the last 5+ years now. Even Vogons poetry readings would be better than this.
I'm ready to update the HGTTG for the entry "Earth"... now it will say "somewhat harmless".

7. Hmmmm...You've got me thinking.
Is it possible that Bush's "speeches" are close analogues of Vogon Poetry Readings? Is Bush a Proto-Vogon?

10. It's all true about the towel ...

His books affected me more than I realized. I have habitually carried a towel with me whenever I go somewhere and always have one in my vehicle.

Last summer I was in New York and was caught in a rain storm. When I made it to shelter, I and my friend both had our towels. No one else did. My daughter, who had just read HGTTG a few months before, stared at my friend and me in awe. I just winked and said, "Told ya ..."

:-)
