Can dogs get schizophrenia?

I think my dog is having auditory hallucinations because he keeps barking at the door for no reason. He just comes out of no where and starts barking. The hair on his back goes up, and he just goes nuts at the door.

He never used to do this either. Someone is always home with him, so there isn't any chance a burglar tried to break in or anything.

I just thought I would tell you about my dog and his doggy mental problem.

I heard, once, somebody had their dog on it.

When I tried to research it, so far anyway, I only came up with: A dog present can help people with schizophrenia feel more motivated...

...I would imagine he wouldn't be that consistent in barking at the same thing. Maybe there's a high-pitched noise you can't hear out there.

12. You could have a ghost... and it could be spooking your pooch.

They tend to see things we can't.

I would be concerned if it was more random, like barking at a napkin one moment and the mop the next.. but if his attention is focused on one particular object or location, it could be a ghost.

It happens.

Maybe you should talk to the ghost and ask it to go away.

And when we took him to the vet the last time ... The Vet said he can hear something outside or maybe another dog somewhere or maybe he had a bad dream

My border collie, Mist, acted like that for awhile, and I thought she was nuts. Then one night I saw an oppossum well-hidden in the holly tree next to the porch. The poor dog was trying to tell me we had an intruder!
