Someone I have known for ages and have lusted over in secret recently revealed himself as a Bush supporter. This guy is a smart, funny, incredibly nice guy, but I am just shocked by this sudden character flaw. I now refuse to return his e-mails or calls.

2. Not all Republicans are evil |
|
And, increasingly (these days), not all are Bush supporters.
I hate neocons and Freeper types -- hate the haters, basically -- but many Republicans are okay, if perhaps some qualify as being particularly misguided or closeted.
He may not be beyond redemption, in other words.

4. Ya sure about that one? |

years ago, this would not have been an issue, but this country has been so divided and destroyed by the extreme right and their agendas, that I don't even associate with people like that. He claims that he is "essentially non-political" and though he leans as a dem, he likes the way * "gets things done" :wtf:
Such a waste of such a gorgeous man.

12. Well, yeah, anyone who likes the way Junior gets things done |

is highly suspect, though mitigating circumstances (exposure to no other input than the electronic media, and most other US media sources, now the neocons' propaganda wing, for example) may still lend hope to the idea he'll see the light.
In a black-and-white world, Republicans are the enemy -- not yours and mine, I mean, but the world's. This isn't a black-and-white world, though.
Too bad that most people nowadays, especially in this country as it is right now, wouldn't recognize a true 'conservative' if one was thrown at them. I'd never be a Republican -- even their traditional sensibilities are at odds with most of mine -- but the old-time Republican types, before the Party was totally co-opted and reshaped to the neocon's evil (no other word will do) agenda, were not like the active and politically aware among the postmodern Republicans of today.
Not that the Democratic Party has exactly distinguished itself of late, either...

and now I just got a message from one of my friends who was with us when he said this and now she is wondering if he was just joking. I don't know. I am angry at myself that I cannot get over this, and angry at those fuckers who have divided this country so much that I cannot have civil debate with someone anymore.

7. Well, if he's joking then... |

oh, but it's nothing to joke about...
that reminds me- once, in a very heated argument someone called me a Republican. I just laughed at them!
Well, good luck with it. Who am I to give advice, anyway?

Isn't it amazing how this could be the deal-breaker. We share the same sense of humor, hobbies, tv shows, movies and I hope to god this was a joke.
