2. Hair gel.
Keeps it looking wet. Pretty stiff, though.

3. For men they have that stuff you comb in that slowly covers up the gray
I gave up using it though, too much work and I decided I wasn't that vain.

4. Take it from me:
No! And, don't even try plucking...I did, and it just grows back faster and straight up!

If you color it yourself, color spa (temporary color) is easy to use.

6. Some ideas
I was very prematurely gray -- got my first gray hair at 13.
A stranger approached me in the subway and was convinced that I suffered from some missing nutrients. She urged me to take B6, B12, and Paraminobenzoic Acid (PABA). I did for a while and I don't know whether it made a difference. Maybe it slowed the graying but it certainly did not restore my hair color.
There's a Chinese Herb called FoTi which is also supposed to restore your hair color. I took it for a while and did not notice a difference.
You may want to give these ideas a try.

9. It depends on how much gray.

Coloring is really the best option if you really want to cover gray.

(more natural solutions/suggestions at the above site)

<snip>
The most natural way to colour your hair is with henna, which is also available at many health food stores. This well-known plant dye has been around for centuries. The Lawsonia inermis shrub is native to North Africa, Asia and Australia. The all-natural dye coats the hair’s cuticle while giving it colour, strength, body and thickness. Today’s henna can tint black, red, dark brown and blonde manes. It cannot lighten hair, but it can cover grey.

Try customizing the henna. For dry hair, mix henna to the texture of wet cake batter, then add an egg or a teaspoon of olive oil to seal in the moisture. By adding dry coffee or rosemary, you can create a richer tone. Strong chamomile tea will brighten light brown or blonde hair, and apple cider vinegar will help bind the henna to colour-resistant hair.

With all hair dyes, even henna, do a patch test on the inside of your arm. Even though henna is the safest all colouring products, some people may have an allergic response. You can tell if you are going to have a reaction within a couple of hours.

14. Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder Spray.
But don't get caught in the rain with out an umbrella and don't go swimming either. It comes in 5 colors. Black, Brown, Blondish, Red, White. If your looking for a special occasion temporary fix and you know the weather this may work for you. It washes out with shampoo.

If you want a long term solution color is the best. There are semi, demi and permanent choices.

Also beauty supply stores like Sally's sell hair mascara mostly to be used on roots but would also cover a few grays. I've never used them but again it is just a temporary fix.

I'm just answering a question with facts. I'm not telling anyone to do anything one way or another.

17. Roux Fanci-Full Temporary Color Rinse
or Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse. I use both to cover my gray. I use the rinse if I'm wearing my hair straight, the mousse if I'm styling it.

They rinse out as soon as you shampoo. I love them because I got tired of the dark roots when I dyed my hair.

I buy it at Sally's Beauty Supply. They also sell it at drug stores & discount stores.

19. Don't know how well this works on everyone, but...
Edited on Mon May-29-06 07:50 AM by NewWaveChick1981
...my mother-in-law used to eat two big sprigs of parsley every day, and her graying hair gradually changed back to its natural color. (It eventually stopped working, so she gave up the parsley.) I know she didn't just dye her hair, because she's super-colossal paranoid about chemicals of any kind touching her head or face. It may work (or it may not), but it's a non-hazardous method to try. Besides, parsley's good for you! :D

20. Let it snow.
I wear my mop longer, which covers the greying temples. My hair has always bleached easily in the sun, so the rest blends nicely. My father used to dye his, then say it was natural. Despite that the whole house could see his colouring kit in the bathroom. I'll let my mop take its natural course.

21. You could look into a colored cellophane wrap.
I have a lot -- A LOT -- of a hair, and my hairdresser has advised me to look into this when I start graying. I often get a cellophane wrap (clear) to make my hair shinier and smoother. The colored version just has a little bit of tint in it. That way, you won't get the "rootsy" look as it grows out.

Yeah, not what you asked, but sort of! :)
