Poll: Window fans - should they blow in or out?

For those of you who depend on window fans, should they blow out to exhaust the hot air or blow in so you can catch a breeze?

By the way - my house is surrounded by huge shade trees and is literally 5-10 degrees cooler than the city 1/8 mile away all summer long!

1. Depends on the time of day

Generally, exhaust fans work best to draw air through a room, particularly at night, to cool it off. If the midday outdoor heat is high, only the direct air blasting on you will cool you a little bit.

2. Better out than in

3. One side out and one in to go with the prevailing breeze

in the mornings and the evening, then close the place up tight in the hot part of the day and keep as much cool air as possible in.

4. My daughter just pointed out - there is no such thing as a Windows fan

because Windows keeps crashing!
