My kid's elementary school was severely vandalized on Sat. night
http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2006/May/29/local/stories/01local.htm

<snip> Vandals are suspected of smashing windows and spraypainting every wall at Brook Knoll Elementary School, forcing a team of parent volunteers to spend Sunday trying to fix the damage before students return to school from the holiday weekend.

My daughter is a third grader at Brook Knoll and my son went there, too. In all my years of living in this community, I have NEVER seen such hateful and destructive vandalism. It's really shocking and sad that this sort of thing could happen here, in our quiet little town.

The inspiring and good news is that our community has really rallied to come together and fix up the school before the kids come back tomorrow. I'm going over this afternoon myself to help out. There is a whole crew of parent volunteers painting murals on the boards that had to be nailed up over the smashed windows.

In the midst of it all, I believe in the Goodness of the human spirit....despite the actions of a few UN-enlightened teenagers. :grouphug:

1. Is this in Santa Cruz? Seems like an unlikely place.
I googled it

Good to see the community come together like that.

2. Yup, Santa Cruz county.
Scotts Valley is the northern most town in the county. We're in the base of the Santa Cruz mountains. You're right, it's very unusual to see this sort of thing here. SV is a quiet little bedroom community, filled with lots of families.

:hi: kwassa! BTW, I just bought Putumayo's latest offering, called Afro-Cuban Dance Party. You'd love it!! Great stuff!

3. Strange
There was a fire yesterday that pretty much trashed a portable classroom at Britton Middle School in Morgan Hill, and they're saying it was arson.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!11

10. oh, that's awful!
some folks seem to think that the end of the school year should lead to destructive free-for-alls.

Good for you guys, -without parent help, many situations would be really bad.

Hey how are ya, Shine? Haven't seen ya in a while. :hi: :pals:

11. Hey, sweetie!
Yeah, we're fortunate to have such great parent participation at the school. It's been a wonderful environment for my kids.

Life's great. We're wrapping up the school year, the kids are stoked for summer, I've gotten back into cycling again, after recovering from a hip injury, and we're going to Maui for two weeks next month! :woohoo: Yup, I've been pretty busy and haven't been 'round DU much lately.

How's it goin' on YOUR end, girlfriend? Hope all's well with you and the family. :hi: :pals:

12. school will be out next week
it's hot and cold with work, crazy busy one week and quiet the next. I'm looking forward to some pool time soon. It's in the 90s here (very early for really hot weather) and I want the pool to be open NOW. Kid will have some summer camps - I don't know about vac. since my husband just started a new job....

Maui sounds great - hope you have a wonderful time!
