Saw DaVinci Code yesterday. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
I had read the book, still liked the movie.
My daughter, who has not yet read the book, also liked it.
Then we saw "Over the Hedge" and laughed ourselves silly.

1. I enjoyed it, too.
You can't go into it thinking that it's going to be Oscar material. It's fluffy summer fare, nothing that's going to change the world or anything. It was a nice escape for a couple hours, and it kept my dad awake, which says quite a bit. :D

2. Was Tom Hanks performance of Oscar Caliber?
Who do you think will get a nomination from TDVC?

3. Not much
Perhaps a sound editing nomination, or one of the craft awards. But it didn't warrant any performance awards, or art direction, since in that area, it was pretty much shot on location. I suppose they might try for one for the art design, since they used matte shots to "age" some of the re-creations, but that wasn't that impressive.

Except for Ian McKellan, whose performance was slightly over the top, none of the performances are in any way worthy of an Oscar.

4. I didn't think it was anything spectacularly Oscar-worthy.
He wasn't bad at all, just not stand-out enough to merit a nod, IMHO...though I'm not a movie connoisseur. It's certainly not Oscar material in my mind, but like I said, I didn't go in there thinking that it would be. Like the book, it wasn't a masterpiece, but it kept me engaged, so I can't ask for too much more.

They might just give Hanks an nomination because he's Tom Hanks, though. :)

5. Embarrasingly bad!
Shame on Ron Howard! Nothing near to his "Beautiful MInd." This was a real POS. Far too much exposition scene by scene for a movie. A novel, fine. Movies, however, must move.

Bad acting, bad directing, bad (really bad) script. What were they thinking???
