I am so moved that she has brought something that has had to go underground in alot of the middle east because of religious fanaticism and moved it right out into Western popular culture. Things like this make me want to believe there is a God (or Goddess). When I watch her do that middle eastern dancing I can really almost travel back in time to before the advent of patriarchal society when women had more freedom with their physical expression, and female sexuality wasn't looked at as dirty or sinful. I personally think she is a very, very old soul and was around back then...and maybe has made one more trip down here to bring us that ancient dance again.

20. I really love her in Spanish better than English

I have Fijacion Oral and Grandes Exitos and there is no comparison to listen to her in Spanish over English. I am really bummed about this 'Hips Don't Lie' song, because it is so sparse and watered down, totally American sounding pop despite the Caribbean beat. If you listen to old Shakira on her up-tempo songs she will sometimes sing over just about every note...I mean, this woman has something to say, lol. And it is so infectious; her song 'Ciega Sordomuda' is just so gorgeous, and she sings the whole time. Even though it's in Spanish which I know very little of, lines like "y la cellulitis invada sus piernas" from 'Si Te Vas', another really wordy song, aren't that hard to figure out, lol she definitely isn't afraid to write about stuff most women wouldn't dream of saying out loud. It blows me away she was writing and peforming songs like these in her teens and early twenties. Unreal. She is astoundingly talented, and I hope that she doesn't totally water herself down to appeal to whatever market she is trying to hit. The Spanish versions of her hits Ojos Asi (Eyes like yours) and Suerte (Whenever, Wherever) are way superior to the english versions.
