My first interview in over 9 years...
Edited on Wed May-31-06 04:46 PM by HypnoToad
I'm still trembling.

I didn't know when to get into detail or when to be pithy. But I made the attempt...

The e-mail I got said it would take about 30 minutes. In reality it took 12. I hope that is not a bad sign.

If by some miracle I get selected for the follow-up interview, I will definitely have to nix the anxiety. Especially given my current work record, which is great. I just can't think well on my feet. I wish I'd said that too, but that'd have been a copout.

2. Calm and able to talk on my feet. I can't do impromptu.
But at least I'm trying.

5. Brainstorm w/ someone.
Think of every single question, offbeat or not, that they could possibly ask you.

You'll feel more prepared.

6. Thanks. Having mentally gone through my responses, I fscked up big-time.
I alluded to my current job where I said to have been doing the same thing as the new one.

I later said it was the expanded amount of duties that intrigued me; I'd be doing more.

(of course, in my current job, and I wish I had thought to have said the obvious here, any of those "expanded duties" is entirely unofficial and I'm given those duties only because nobody else does.)

Maybe I wasn't meant for this job. After all, it pays 30% less than my current one... of course, maybe I'm not meant in the new order because I have problems with communication skills. Oh well.

7. There is a place for you somewhere.
Just be ready for when someone finally makes you an offer.

Someone out there will realize what a fantastic person you truly are and will gladly jump on the chance to have you.

8. We're still talking employment, right?

Forgive me, my sense of humor. I've waited so long for both.

No doubt it'll be the death of me too.

9. I know your sense of humor quite well.
Nothing to forgive.

I meant employment but if you find something else please send some of those vibes my way. I'm doing piss-poor in the love department right now.

3. I've almost always gotten thru an interview
faster than expected. I wouldn't say it's a good or a bad sign it depends on the details of the conversation. I often worry that I didn't ask enough or the 'right' questions. Which is important.

But usually the worry level is higher than it needs to be so I'd say be happy you got the interview, think about what you'll do for the next one - either the follow up for this company or the next interview at a different company. This one's over now so have a beer or ice cream cone or a nap - whatever you like ot relax and reward yourself.

4. Agreed...
There are MANY unemployed people right now. To have made it to this stage is exceptional.

Of course, reality bites, but in fantasyland I can spin anything to make it sound nice. The core problem is me; my introverted shyness and inability to think well on my feet. When focused on task, it's easy. Having Asperger's doesn't help either, but I'm not using that as an excuse. I am trying to live in this world, by its rules, and even taking any number of pisspot medications just so I don't frazzle under pressure, Lord knows what that'll eventually do to me too...

Still, "right to life" and all that. Glad I know how to read.

10. Dude, if this is for the state jobs...
...then you are 1000% ahead of any of the other candidates! :toast:

When they posted my job a couple years ago, they took the first 50 responses only (there were more than 50). From there, they narrowed it down to three candidates, and only interviewed those. Out of those three, I got my job.

If you've made it this far, you've done VERY well!

Good luck!!!!
