Exercise for gimps
So here's my tale.

Several months ago, I sustained an ankle injury while skateboarding in Oregon. (Just days before I had the extreme joy of dining with that most exceptional DUer swag, if I may be permitted to brag.) And it still isn't quite healed, I can no longer skate - good riddance to that anyway, I sometimes think - ride a bike or run without pain, or even walk any distance without not unserious discomfort (and annoying limping). Since I'm no longer able to do any of those things, bottom line, I'm gaining weight. Like pushing towards new pants weight. Me no likey. So until I can get doctored up and have the ankle fixed once and for all, which is hopefully later this summer after my car's paid off and I have the extra money to spend, anyone have any ideas in re excercise one can partake in while gimped? Investing in equipment isn't really an option, so no pricey rowing machines (or even cheap rowboats, for that matter) are going to happen. The Googling I did only yielded excercises for people with spinal injuries, which, knock wood, I don't have.

Thanks in advance. Oh, and if the mods detrmine this to be a medical advice thread (though I don't think it is), I'll understand if it gets locked.

7. No Y nearby, unfortunately.
There IS a public outdoor pool, but this time of year it's totally overrun with children, and thus, one has to assume, urine.

I'll look into where the nearest Y is, though, because between your swimming suggestion and flvegan's weights ideas, I think that might be the ticket. That and lots more celery...

and see if there are any times set aside for adults only.

I'm sure the kitten has a nice personality.
So, do Cornish Rexes have some fur, just a lot less than a regular DSH, but a lot more than a Sphynx?

34. they do have very soft wavy fur.... but their coats get "blown" by the
upset of pregnancy and can take a couple years to become normal again. .
ordinary cats have three kinds of fur, Crex have one, and do not shed or cause allergies. also, their whiskers come in crinkled.
and since their coat is so thin, you can feel their body temp, which is something like 105. so they feel really nice.
this is what an award winning coat looks like:

6. In addition to matcom's great swimming advice, why not consider
using some of the weight machines at that Y (or wherever). Do upper body only, for now. Muscle mass will help burn extra calories, plus it'll give you something else to take your mind off your injury.

8. See post 7 above, and thanks.
There's no Y nearby, but driving out a bit to get to one a couple/three days a week won't strain my gas budget significantly, I don't think.

For exercises to do at home, crunches would probably help.

19. Swimming or get a video about chair yoga.
Either will work well.

Actually, there are still lots of yoga moves that you can do. It will increase your flexibility, which might help a bit.

33. I'm surprised no one's made a comment
about the word "gimp."

Anyhow, my advice? Amputate the leg, replace it with a dehumidifier approximately the same shape and size as your old leg, solder that fucker on just below the knee, and hire yourself out to people struck by Katrina who have mold in their houses.
