It's tough. Mighty Mouse was the first; Bugs is still a hero. I am older than your average bear, though, and a Charter Member of the Huckleberry Hound Fan Club (1959). ("She is lost and gone forever, and her shoes, are number niinnne!"). Daughter's Saturday favorites were Smurfs and My Little Pony. How about sharing yours?

I can't speak to the pungent humor of Rocky and Bullwinkle in terms of the outrageous influence it had on us Boomers. It really did! I also liked Mike Majors and Supercar. Remember that?

Rocky and Bullwinkle, if you happen to ever see it again, was very political, subversive really, and that goes even beyond Boris and Natashya.

96. Those would be my choices too!
Rocky and Bullwinkle was like a video version of Mad Magazine, and the old Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes had greater depth to them than the newer, flatter style of animation that was appearing in the mid 60s and later.

Oh, but for sheer cheapnezz: Clutch Cargo!

26. I loved the Smurfs!!!
My hotmail address is even daisysmurf08. Unfortunately there was no Smurf named Daisy, right? But my friends and I got confused when I picked it! Oh well.

Anyway, when I was little I used to sing the song from the Christmas special to myself when I woke up with from a bad dream. It always put me right back to sleep.

Remember...

"The goodness makes the badness go away. When there's goodness in your heart, the badness cannot start. The goodness makes the badness go away."

42. Oh, I loved Top Cat.
I even loved the theme song. Theme songs for the old cartoons were great. Quick Draw McGraw, Mighty Mouse, Huckleberry Hound, Tennessee Tuxedo, all great. I also liked the Pixie and Dixie cartoons, with Jinx the Cat who "hated meeses to pieces". Now I want to watch them all over again. My most recent favorite (but not too recent) was the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons.

Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 10:50 AM by NewWaveChick1981
Secret Squirrel---Mom ordered a felt Secret Squirrel hat for me when I was two, and I remember running around in that thing and thinking I was hot stuff! :) It had the eye holes and everything! Little Sis had to be Morocco Mole, and she didn't care too much either way. :)

Mighty Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Quick-Draw McGraw, Yogi Bear, Magilla Gorilla, Top Cat, The Archies, Woody Woodpecker, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Pebbles and Bam-Bam, Snagglepuss, Lippy the Lion and Har-De-Har-Har, Huckleberry Hound, Penelope Pitstop, and many, many more!

Interesting note: I wrote to CBS' In The News (ok, who remembers that? :) ) when the war was going on in Cyprus (1974) and asked how the kids were doing in that war-torn country. (I was 11.) I got a call one afternoon after school from Charles Kuralt's secretary telling me they'd chosen my question to do on one of their segments. Mom was skeptical and called them back, and then she was thrilled to find out they were not joking! The segment aired one Saturday during The Partridge Family 2200 AD (yeah, the Partridges meet the Jetsons :P ), and all of my friends saw it. That was before VCRs, so I couldn't tape it, but man, I was a minor celebrity at school! :D Charles Kuralt read my question and then said, "Well, Julie, we are pleased to report that the children on Cyprus are faring pretty well. (etc., etc., etc.)." :D

I'm slowly making my way through the DVDs, and hopefully the time the 'Requiem Project' will be completed in the not too distant future (a final episode was written but never made, so fans are doing it). Other favorite were Thundercats, Muppet Babies, Captain Planet, The Real Ghostbusters, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends & The California Raisins.

78. "Fat Albert"
Say what you will about Bill Cosby, that show had the greatest theme song, and the animation was really nice, and if I didn't watch out, I'd learn something too.

HEY! HEY! HEY!

80. Ya know, that wasn't half bad. At all.
It was no Ambiguously Gay Duo, but it was a better cartoon than we had a right to expect. Fascinating.

94. Milton the Monster...
On top of old horror hill in a secret laboratory,
Professor Weirdo and Count Kook were in their monstrous glory.

Six drops of the essence of terror, Five drops of sinister sauce,
When the stirring's done may I lick the spoon?
Of course ha ha of course.
Now for the tincture of tenderness, But I must use only a touch,
For without a touch of tenderness, He might destroy me!
(Professor Weirdo, bumped) Whoops too much.
(Prof) "Better hold your breath it's starting to tick:
(Count Kook) Better hold my hand I'm feeling sick -
(Milton) Hello Dad!
(Prof) What have I done?
(M.) I'm Milton, Your brand new son!

109. I seem to remember D&D being a short-lived
cartoon, or at least it lived untill I hit puberty and talking to girls on the phone took priority over animation as a form of leisure as a smelly doofus kid.

I loved D&D then, and still do. Sunday night D&D rocks!
