I have an interview Thursday |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 10:20 PM by lizziegrace
It's for a job I've done as a temp for the last 5 months. The temp position was not a temp-to-hire one. After I started, the CFO announced her plans to leave this summer. I'm one of 4 candidates and I don't like the odds. It's not clear if my interview is a "courtesy" or if I'm a viable candidate. The CEO is heavy into politics and people with a big name. Obviously, that's not me. I have the advantage of seeing the organization, warts and all. They have seen me as a hard-working employee, not a smiling-faced, freshly-polished candidate.
I'm not sure what to think. Any opinions?

1. hey just go in there and do what you have to do |
|
Utilize your strengths as a hard worker and so on. If the political stuff isn't your thing, just make sure you accent what you are good at. If they prefer to hire style over substance then there wasn't much you could have done anyway. Just give yourself the best shot to go out and win the position.

2. Just be as optimistic, outgoing and er, capable-looking as you can. |
|
I mean, it can't hurt, right?
:-) It's been a while since any of my interviews were for positions of that nature, so my advice is probably not really all that helpful, I know. I will think very positive thoughts about your situation, though. You can be on my meditation list for Protection/Empowerment later.

(as much as you can); do your best; highlight the usefulness of your knowledge, skills and experience (but be careful about displaying your knowledge of negative things, especially negative things about the organization -- it's easy to be taken the wrong way here); and don't get your hopes too high.
If you keep trying, something will come through

And don't read anything into it...
It's gonna be over in a few days, one way or another...
Why work yourself into a snit...
Relax, be yourself....

It's hard not to get disillusioned and down about all this. And yes, most of the anxiety comes from needing a full-time with benefits so badly. I've been existing on 50% of my usual salary for over 5 months now and the market is unbelievably tough here. I've done a little bit of everything in accounting but I'm not an expert in any particular area. Not many opportunities for generalists right now.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I need you cheerleaders!
