Poll question: When you go the hairdresser |
|
are you someone who talks with the person who styles your hair? Or are you someone who doesn't like to talk?
I rather don't talk. I go to the hairdresser to get my hair cut but not to hear all the gossip or have to tell the hairdresser about my life. So the whole conversation is limited to how I want get my hair cut or maybe colored.

2. When I used to get my hair cut, I would just tell the stylist what.... |
|
...length I wanted cut off, and then would lay back and close my eyes.

7. After I tell them what I want, I don't want to talk to them. |
|
Half the time, they don't even do what I want. I've had several people refuse to cut my hair as short as wanted because it's a "man's" haircut. Once the woman cut so little off (and refused to go shorter), that my mother, who notices even the tiniest change on me, said, "I thought you went to get a haircut" when I got home.
To make it even more annoying, people routinely think I'm 16/17 and then claim they thought I was younger because I'm "petite." Um...don't girls usually finish growing around 13-14. It's amazing how many people think I'm in HS because I'm 5'1." Damn, I'm heavily tattooed for a minor.

9. OK, after 20 years it is acceptable |
|
:)
But I go to a hairdresser where I have another lady cutting my hair every time. So there won't be any connections.

15. I never go in there intending to talk but |
|
I usually end up doing it. Especially if it is somebody I like enough to return to again. I've even gone to lunch with my current hairdresser and have done charity work with him.

16. I talk. He's a personal friend. :) |
|
If it were a different hairstylist, I would not necessarily initiate any conversation, but if he or she did, I would definitely be responsive. That's just me. :D

the personality of the person cutting my hair. If they are talkative and friendly and are trying to get me to make conversation I will make some attempts. (This often seems to be the case with people who cut hair, for whatever reason.) If they aren't much of a talker I usually respond similarly. My regular nature is to be shy and quiet and I've always been clumsy at conversation-making, so I can be comfortable with either kind. ('cause if they're the talkative one they're making the bulk of the conversation, not me!) Currently I'm working on my pseudo-hippie look again so I haven't had a haircut in six months anyway!

19. I'm not much for small talk |
|
I bring a book wherever I go and once the hair is washed and he/she is cutting, I pick up the book and do my thing and let them do theirs. My chiropracter talks a mile a minute but she doesn't really expect any answers and in any case, barely draws a breath long enough for me to get a word in, even if I wanted to. So I know all the details of her personal life, or I would if I paid any attention. I kind of tune her out, like elevator music.

and yet stylists seem to never stop. It's worse when it's a waxer. And yet I have friends who love the conversations they have with their waxers. I for one, like to limit conversation to discussion about the procedure.

23. I have a major chat fest with my stylist. |
|
I've only used 2 different stylist in the last 10 yrs and I only changed stylists because I moved to a new city. We spend the time getting caught up with each others news during the time I have my hair colored and cut. It makes me look forward to getting my hair done because I enjoy the chats.

:eyes:
So even if I wanted to, I couldn't get a word in edgewise. It's actually rather awkward....If she wants to talk to our shared hairdresser, she can do it when she's having her OWN hair cut, dammit!

25. I rarely go to the hairdresser... |
|
Generally just wear my hair long and straight but, every once in a while, I'll get a wild one and go get it all cut off.
When I do, my end of the conversation is limited to how short I want it, and yes, I'm sure. Chop it.
Then I sit there and listen to the hairdresser rattle while I tune it out and think, "Oh, shit. What did I just do?" alternately with, "It's okay. It'll grow back."
