Poll question: Best bottled water? |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-06-06 07:29 PM by BlueIris
The kinds I listed are obviously not the only kinds out there, they're just the ones I drink. I'm sure lots of you will want to add your favorite brand.

...can you really tell a difference between the brands?
If so, please share your observations, because I can't for the life of me distinguish brands of water.

I mean the basic stuff, aquafina, store brand etc. etc. I really can't tell the difference. But when you are talking about like Tynant, Fiji or other stuff that is bottled from natural springs, it tastes.. well.. different. Fiji for example to me always tastes ice cold, even if it is warm.

Evian tastes very sweet to me, like there's a trace of lead in the water. Poland Springs tastes neutral to me. Fiji does taste cold somehow. Etc.
I can't drink some waters, because they taste like detergent to me, or I taste the mineral content.

35. Evain tastes sweet and very soft to me - I don't like it at all. |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-06-06 08:25 PM by smirkymonkey
My vote would be for Volvic - I drink a TON of water, all day long, and I can taste the subtle differences.
Actually the best water I have ever had was the spring water from the town I grew up in (Upstate NY) we still have a water tub, from which spring water flows freely. People come from all around to bottle it and it's FREE! It's very crisp and clean - so refreshing!

It is simply delicious water, I dunno why.
Second (and sometimes first when I am dehydrated) is SmartWater. Yummy electrolyte goodness.

|

Icelandic Glacial, Voss, or Hawaii Water. All of those leave Fiji in the dust in terms of purity and taste. Hawaii Water is so pure, it's sweet. But Voss and Glacial are also excellent and have (slightly) safer packaging. I agree that smart water's electrolytes make it worth the bland, vaguely gritty quality it has to it (it's not quite Evian gritty, but...it's there). Voss and Icelandic Glacial aren't cheap, but they're soooo worth the investment.

They stopped selling it in this area years ago - it might be Thorspring. I do remember that it was from Iceland and it was simply delicious. My mouth waters thinking about it! Strange, for water, huh?

I think Evian is still THE best water out there. However, in California, I drank mostly Arrowhead, and in Mass, where Arrowhead is not available, I like Poland Springs. For when I'm just out and need water, I'll drink either Aquafina or Dasani from the vending machines.

Never branded cattle, but I used to shovel manuer for my father's worm farm. And my favorite water was from a drainage ditch in the Kiln, Mississippi, because it flowed over shallow gravel at one point. Ah, the days before toxic sludge became part of the environment.

for them, then bitch about $3 per gallon gasoline.
My favorite? The kitchen faucet.
Tastes good, I don't have to go to the store to get it, I don't pollute the earth with empty bottles (which, by the way, need CRUDE OIL and FOSSIL FUELS to make), and it costs me a cent and a quarter per gallon.

Hey, even if you recycle all those 12-ounce bottles, do you think they just wash them out and refill them? No, they MELT them. Using hydrocarbon fuel to do it.
By the way, on your way to work tomorrow, look beside the road you're driving on. How many water bottles do you see there? Lots, I bet.

With all the crap they add to tap water and the dubious sources from which the reclaim it, you might be safer to drink scumwater from the ditch outside. Not to mention that in some places here in Central Texas the water gives my cats urinary tract infections from the mineral content.

|
It's bottled by either Pepsico or Coke (I forget which) and it's just the same water they use to make their cola. They bottle it without the syrup or carbination and charge you more for it.

27. Ewwww, I know. It's my "for emergency use only" water. |
|
Well, it's the lowest quality water I think I could stand in an emergency, anyway. I would drink other stuff if I were literally stranded on a desert island or something, but in normal circumstances (stuck in apartment building laundry room, for instance) Aquafina is as low as I could go. Even Evian is a tough swallow for me. I hate that stuff. It tastes like it has dirt in it.

|
tastes like detergent for weeks at a time several time a year, and it's hard water. Tap water in Buffalo is a little better but I can still only stomach a small amount of it. The water here in NYC is the best of the places I've lived.
Given how bad tap water can be I'm not sure I'd trust whatever standards they claim to adhere to.
