I was given a cigar I was told is Cuban. |
|
The band sez Dominican Republic. Is that considered real "Cuban"? (I wouldn't know- I haven't smoked cigars in over twenty five years.)
Just curious.

There are brands that produce cigars in both countries, but they're open about what you are getting.

it's possible that whoever you got it from put a Dominican band on it to make it easy to get back through customs (if the band said 'Habana', it'd be confiscated, and the person bringing it in would possibly be subject to heavy fines for attempted importation of contraband).
Other possibility: It's Dominican, but made with Cuban seed-leaf tobacco (brought from Cuba and planted in the Dominican Republic, at a similar latitude and in similar soil, so it should be as close to Cuban as you can legally get here in the States).
