Who is the youngest member of DU?? |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-06-06 09:06 PM by SmileyBoy
I remember last year seeing someone who was 12. I think the Lounge has regular posters who are 14 or 15, if I recall correctly. I'm talking about someone with their own username, not someone who logs on their parent's account.
No offense, but do 12 year-olds even know the first thing about politics?? Is there anyone really super young on here right now??

2. I dunno, but half the time I can't tell how old people are. |
|
And I don't mean that as a slam.
I don't know if I knew anything about politics at age 12 - but I bet if there is some parental discussion in that area, a 12 year old may be capable of understanding much of what is posted on DU.

But MMR (MiniMandaRuth) is younger than I am, I believe--she finished 8th grade this past year, and I finshed my freshman year of high school. And I believe that there is someone (couldn't tell you who) who is even younger than she is.

I was born in September of '91--I'm young for my grade, though still legal around here (cut-off is October 15th). I'll be 15 this fall.

18. When I was in Sixth Grade.... |
|
I marched in the First Earth Day Parade...
We went five miles and picked up garbage along the shore way in Cleveland...
That was back before prisoners did it...
Then, in ninth grade I organized a walk out to protest the Vietnam War...
So, yea, kids can be just as passionate about politics...
Beside, anyone one of our youngsters is more hip to what's going on that almost every person who watches Faux....

And I'm offended by your comment. I was 12 in '04 and I was very vocal in my support of John Kerry, inculding wearing a Kerry Button the school every day in October of '04. In 2002 I supported Latuenberg, and I said in class I was hoping Bradley would run, who I supported in 2000 when I was 8. I then supported Gore.

15. I got into politics mostly in 03. I was 12 then, and I'm 14 now, and |
|
still keeping up with politics. Although, I must say my ideas have matured extraordinarily since then, and I've grown away from the more main stream ideals and have been developing more of my own. That all said, don't doubt us youngin's! Some of us are paying attention (we definately need too as well, considering the mess all you old people are leaving us with :P)

I guess everyone types on behalf of the youngest DUer. Yes, that goes for men and women. All sperm and eggs are potential children. So don't go killing kittens now!

37. "Do 12 year olds even know the first thing about politics?" |
|
By the time I reached my twelfth year I had been actively interested in politics, history and current affairs for over four years. I watched the news every day –sometimes on up to two or three different TV channels –and read the newspapers frequently. I was reading adult biographies and autobiographies –I read Nancy Reagan’s memoirs when I was ten, Ronald Reagan’s memoirs when I was the same age and a book by Richard Nixon in the same year. I had followed the 1992 US presidential election closely in my eleventh hour and was familiar with all the Democratic presidential nominees during the primary season and the unfolding campaign between Bush and Clinton during the final months. I also had previously followed the Persian Gulf War, the Clarence Thomas hearings, the fall of the Soviet Union, political events in Australia and Canada and numerous other world events closely. I knew the biographies and backgrounds of a considerable number of world leaders and devoured the newspapers regularly looking for information about them. I could participate in political discussions and astound adults with my knowledge of the political process and adults would come and ask for my advice before voting.
Quite a few of the 8-12 year olds now are very knowledgeable and very interested in politics –and they know their history and current affairs.
Age is just a number –it doesn’t necessarily apply to the development of the mind.
