3. Use "Terro" ant killer, sadly...
I really hate to kill the little guys, but I don't like them swarming all over my food preparation areas either.

Peppermint (the plant) and peppermint oil/extract make a relatively good repellant as well.

10. It was recommended to me by an exterminator when I said I wouldn't use
poison that would harm anything else. Not to mention there is no way on earth I'm ever using poison in the kitchen!

5. Amdro, black label. Green label for leafcutter ants on plants.
Edited on Thu Jul-06-06 09:57 PM by UTUSN
(I realize the o.p. is about INSIDE the house.) As much as I grok the equality of ALL living things, it is SHOCKING to see an army of leafcutters lay waste to plants. One morning you walk outside and find plants bare, sometimes with green, freshly cut leaves down around the base if the ants were interrupted at their job.

12. Try boric acid, sugar and water on cotton balls it
takes a while but the whole nest is destroyed. I forget the exact amounts to use but I found it through the co-op extension program. If you do a search I am sure you can come up the formula.
