How many people can't afford vacation this year?
Seems like every year I get to do less. How many worry about what else they will have to sacrifice and if so what will you do without first? Gas prices are going up a quarter here tomorrow.
I'm worried about an elderly woman who had open heart surgery who
is going to die unless the Pharmaceutical companies come through for her she can't afford five different medications. A local church paid for it this month.
Somehow a vacation seems less significant now.

1. You're so right.
Comparisons do wonders when I'm trying
to gain perspective on things.

I traveled quite a bit when I was younger.
Now, I can hardly afford to take vacations, although
I try to get out of town, even for a day.

That's the problem with the travel bug.
You always have it but can't always afford it.
:(

3. Now I finally have the time
and less responsibilities and can't afford one. I have much
to me thankful for though.

4. What's a vacation?
I ended up using all my vacation time taking care of my sons and my medical conditions. I have 3 days left!

:woohoo:

5. Can you help her to lobby the pharmaceutical firm for freebies?
I've heard that it has worked in the past. Find out who the drug rep is for her cardiologist and work directly with that person.

8. Me
Between recent storm damage to my home that I paid for out of pocket rather than pay the same in deductibles and starting my own business, the mad money fund is at an all time low  The software alone is $1500 and that's for the cheap stuff

10. depends on what you consider a vacation.
I've had some great vacations just staying at or near home doing the things I enjoy without having to be interrupted by work.

As for worries, I learned long ago they are ALWAYS there. If you let them stop you, then you'll never do anything.

IMO, Vacations are mental health times, I don't skip them.

13. I agree
sometimes a vacation is just resting from the every day havoc. Enjoying the sunshine and doing
whatever.

12. Does a one day trip to Shedd Aquarium count as a vacation?
I've only taken one vacation in my life, and my father paid for most of it. My husband and I can't afford to take vacations.

14. I very rarely can afford vacation
I'll probably get a weekend at my sister's on Cape Cod, but besides that....

Let's see... in the last 15 years I've taken 4 trips (and one of them was a long weekend in DC, paid for by my boss).
