I'm serious: I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers are an underrated band
Sure, "By The Way" wasn't that hot, but now that I've listened to "Stadium Arcadia" and some of their earlier work, all I can think of is how underrated they are.
Really, "Under The Bridge" is simply fantastic.
And I know a lot of people dislike the zanny, weird lyrics, but I like them-- they have a nice beat to it.

2. Underrated????
Their huge! In the public eye constantly. They have a huge fan base that are rabid for more. I liked them about ten years ago but have not really gotten into them since and I have heard each release that has come out. I respect them for keeping going and going and going.

3. John Frusciante and Flea are two of my favourite musicians in the world.
Especially with Frusciante's solo work. The Peppers are pretty awesome too.

4. I've always liked RHCP.
They had one or two stinker albums like everyone else, but they're mostly solid. A lot of people stopped liking them when they got "popular", but that's how some folks try to retain their "hip cred".

5. I was born in '85, so I missed a lot of their old work
And since I don't read/watch much popular culture music magazines, I probably didn't realize how popular they may be...

6. Lyrics to "Under The Bridge":
Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way

It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

Wow. Just got me

10. Wait a minute.....
That was like the biggest song of 1992! How the hell can you possibly call them "underrated?"

What level of Rock-Godhood does the OP think that they need to be elevated to?

8. Some good musicians have been in the band
But Anthony Kiedis has a tendency to make every song sound exactly the same.

9. I must agree.
Although the things they do are not exactly "my cup of tea",
I certainly have no problem recognizing the amazing talent
and skill required to do them.

Certainly more talent and skill than 99% of the 'Top 40'
these days.

13. Blood Sugar Sex Magic is one of my favorite albums...
and Dani California sounds better every time I hear it.

The Power Of Equality (from Blood Sugar Sex Magic)

I've got a soul
That cannot sleep
At night when something
Just ain't right
Blood red
But without sight
Exploding egos
In the night
Mix like sticks
Of dynamite
Red black or white
This is my fight
Come on courage
Let's be heard
Turn feelings
Into words
American equality
Has always been sour
An attitude
I would like to devour
My name is peace
This is my hour
Can I get
Just a little bit of power

The power of equality
Is not yet what it ought to be (ought to be)
It fills me up like a hollow tree (hollow tree)
The power of equality

Right or wrong
My song is strong
You don't like it
Get along
Say what I want
Do what I can
Death to the message
Of the Klu Klux Klan
I don't buy supremacy
Media chief
You menace me
The people you say
'Cause all the crime
Wake up motherfucker
And smell the slime
Blackest anger
Whitest fear
Can you hear me
Am I clear
My name is peace
This is my hour
Can I get
Just a little bit of power

The power of equality
Is not yet what it ought to be (ought to be)
It fills me up like a hollow tree (hollow tree)
The power of equality

I've got tapes
I've got CD's
I've got my public enemy
My lilly white ass
Is tickled pink
When I listen to the music
That makes me think
Not another
Motherfuckin' politician
Doin' nothin' but something
For his own ambition
Never touch
The sound we make
Soul sacred love
Vows that we take
To create straight
What is true
Yo he's with me
And what I do
My name is peace
This is my hour
Can I get
Just a little bit of power

The power of equality
Is not yet what it ought to be (ought to be)
It fills me up like a hollow tree (hollow tree)
The power of equality

Madder than a motherfucker
Lick my finger
Can't forget
'Cause the memory lingers
Count 'em off quick
Little piccadilly sickness
Take me to the hick
Eat my thickness
I've got a welt
From the bible belt
Dealing with the hand
That I've been dealt
Sitting in the grip
Of a killing fist
Giving up blood
Just to exist
Rub me wrong
And I get pissed
No I cannot
Get to this
People in pain
I do not dig it
Change of brain
For Mr Bigot

Little brother do you hear me
Have a heart oh come get near me
Misery is not my friend
But I'll break before I bend
What I see is insanity
What ever happened to humanity
What ever happened to humanity
What ever happened to humanity

18. Good. Definitely not overrated.
By the way, "Breaking the Girl" and "Easily" are fantastic songs too. What drags them down a notch are those "zany" songs that all sound exactly like they're trying to re-create "Give it Away".

19. Yea, but Flea bothers me...
He is talneted but seems to have to call attention to himself...

As if he isn;t sure his talent is sufficient...

To many attention getting antics when they started...

But I always liked them, well their music, couldn't stand to watch 'em...

20. I may be one of the few...
...who prefers their newer, melodic stuff to the zany funk-rock of earlier days.

Either way, they are a definitely a praiseworthy band.

Plus, Flea is awesome b/c he's a nihlist :)
