4. I'm rooting for Italy
My grandfather who just passed away was born to Italian immigrants. I was so close to him that it's like losing a parent. He would be happy if Italy won..

As for who WILL win, France might have the edge with their loose play. But I'm not an educated soccer predictor.

5. Allez les Bleus!
France showed on Wednesday that they can go up against a team of divers and win.

Since the second half against Spain, France has played the best soccer of the tournament. They are an outstanding team with both experience (some have criticized them as too old) and youth (Henry and Ribery will be stars for some time). Plus, they have the emotional aspect of this being Zidane's last game.

I think they'll take it.

And I want them to take it.

6. Seriously.

If Portugal had somehow managed to beat France I would have been disgusted. Every single time one of the Portugal players got inside the box they just dropped to the ground. They deserved to lose because they played like losers.

Allez les Bleus!

8. Here's why France is the one...
a) FReepers hate France. Another DUer snarkily suggested they start calling the sport "Freedom Football".

b) The French side is perhaps the most diverse at the entire Cup, maybe even more so than the (ahem) Americans :puke: . In particular, perhaps their three best players are all people of color: Zidane, in fact, holds dual citizenship with Algeria and even tried out for the Algerian selection (they said he wasn't fast enough! ); Vieira comes from the Cape Verdean community in Senegal (who knew?); and of course Henry was the target of those disgraceful "monkey chants" in Spain, which led him to spearhead the sport's nascent anti-racism movement. For that reason alone, Allez les Bleus! In a nation so recently torn by racial strife, a triumph by this French side could actually have a positive impact off the pitch.

c) Did I mention they're playing really great "Freedom Football"? You did see their match with Brazil, right? Incroyable! Then again, Italy were starting to turn it on in the extra periods against Germany...
