Murder, arson charges filed in KCK house fire

A 41-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was charged this afternoon in the death of an 8-year-old girl following a house fire earlier this week.

Karl Bowlin faces charges of first-degree felony murder and aggravated arson in the wake of the fire late Sunday at 49 S. 14th St. that took the life of Jewel Morse, a news release from the office of Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman said.

The murder charge would allow a jury to consider an alternate charge of second-degree murder. Bowlin is being held on $100,000 bond in Wyandotte County jail.

Less than a week after the fire death of an eight-year-old girl, a Kansas City, Kan., man has been charged with felony murder for the blaze, which was apparently started by fireworks.

Karl Bowlin, 41, was charged with one count of first degree felony murder on Thursday by the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office. The charge can carry a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

I know him well enough to know he's remorseful about the girl..After all he has three. But remorse doesn't negate the crime.
