MORAN From NY Paralyzed For Life In 'Accident' During Running Of The Bulls
Bull 1 - MORAN 0

<snip>

PAMPLONA, Spain --A New York man suffered potentially paralyzing injuries when he was thrown by a young cow in a mock bull fight Friday at the end of the first day of Spain's famed running of the bulls.

Ray Ducharme, 31, of New York state, was thrown by one of five cows released in a crowd of hundreds of people in a ring after the first of eight days of bull runs. Officials said Ducharme could not move his legs and underwent emergency surgery.

"He is in very serious condition and could be paralyzed for life," said Pello Pellejero, a Pamplona government spokesman. He did not release Ducharme's hometown.

The run began at 8 a.m. when six bulls, each weighing about three-quarters of a ton, stormed out of a corral and chased thousands of runners a half-mile up packed Cuesta Santo Domingo street.

A New Zealand man was gored in the thigh and a Pamplona native fell and was trampled. Five other people suffered minor injuries.

6. No pity for the stupid.
All the bulls are killed at the end of the event. I feel bad for them! Unlike him they didn't go out of thier way to get involved in this mess.

Personally, I always root for the bulls. Bullfighting is bloody, macho, crap that should go the way of the dinos.

9. I really regret not doing that when I had the chance
of course military personnel (so I was told) were specifically banned from Pamplona for that period of time but I should have risked it and done it anyway.

Oh well.

10. I am glad at least one other person is not going to condmen it.
I have found at my present age that I have absolutely no regrets over anything I have done, only what I did not do.

Europe is not yet a hand-wringing nanny state, and the people there have much more freedom, in so many ways, than we do, in large part because they do not have the culture of blame and lawsuits that we have. They can accept that living a life, really living life, means taking on risks.
