Someone tell me so cool places to go in Tennessee.
In a couple of weeks, my girlfriend and I are going to go on vacation together. She lives in SC and I live in IN so we are going to meet in the middle and see what TN has to offer.

Does anyone know some cool spots to see when we're there?

2. Sun Studio on Union Ave. in Memphis is now a nice little museum
(or it was a few years ago when I was last there.) They will play you a tape of the tunes recorded in that room, and it's like the whole beginning of rock and roll.

At the other end of the state, Chattanooga is kind of a cool town. There's a great view of it from Lookout Mountain, and the city itself seems to have a bit of a bohemian scene.

10. Dollywood!!!!!!! It will be unique.........
Unique as its namesake Dolly Parton, Dollywood theme park is a one-of-a-kind Smoky Mountain Family Adventure! Spanning 125 acres and nestled in the lush foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, near Gatlinburg, Dollywood is one of the most popular family vacation destinations.

Be sure to wear some Anti-Bush gear. The hillbillies love that stuff. :)

11. Chattanooga. Great downtown, aquariums, 3-D IMAX cinema, art galleries,
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 04:09 PM by CottonBear
electric shuttle buses, a riverwalk and greenway, sculpture gardens, The Chattanooga aquarium (new expansion is open), 3-D IMAX cinema, museums: (Hunter Museum of fine art, glassware museum, children's museum and Holmes Wrecker truck museum too!), historic sites (civil war and 19th century sites and buildings), the world's longest pedestrian bridge which leads fromt he aquarium side of the river to a huge riverfront park complete with a antique carousel with animals handcarved by Chattanooga and Southeastern artists; river boats, canoeing, rowing and kayaking on the beautiful and scenic Tennessee River. There is great shopping and a vibrant downtown with many businesses, shops and stores. The Chattangooga Choo Choo (our old train station and grounds) is a nice place to visit too! Lookout and Signal Mountains offer historic sites and views of the Chatttanooga Valley. Downtown has some good restaurants and a great brewpub right near the aqaurium! The Read House Hoteel is very old and historic and fully restored. There are a variety of hotels from expensive to affordable. There are bed and breakfast inns on Lookout Mountain. One can even go hang gliding not too far from Chattanooga!

I grew up there. It is very progressive as far as urban planning and the environment are concerned.

12. Jack's BBQ on Music Row in Nashville
Reiman Auditorium, original home of the Grand Ole Opry. There's a lot to see and do in Nashville. Also Beale Street in Memphis; Sun Studios, Graceland, etc.

14. BEALE STREET in Memphis
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 04:27 PM by Faye
ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE TO DRINK.

man oh man did I have a blast there this past March. you can walk up and down the street with beers or whatever alcohol with no problems (it's "open beer policy"), stop at a beer stand and get a "BIG ASS BEER" (that's what they are really called). Oh, and if you like the Blues, there are tons of Blues bands playing in the bars around there. Lots of fun. Also, National Civil Rights Museum --- that was amazing.

16. Memphis is fun
There's Graceland of course, which is cheesy but surprisingly cool to visit. You can take a tour of the famous recording studios. There are bars and blues clubs all along Beale Street where you might catch a big name blues band. The Peabody Hotel has ducks that they bring down the elevator and let swim in the hotel fountain twice a day, it's really cute. Lots of great barbecue joints to try out.

18. Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Very touristy,
but plenty of fun stuff to do. If you go, Cade's Cove just outside of Gatlinburg is a really neat place. There are deer grazing in the fields that have no fear of humans because they are not hunted. And, of course, there is Dollywood in Pigeon Forge (sort of fun, but a tourist trap). And there are tons of outlet malls in Pigeon Forge if you are into shopping.

20. Pigeon forge should be blown up.
It only exists to leach off the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains, which are the real tourist destination in East Tennessee. Cades Cove is the overcrowded, exhaust-filled loop in the Smoky Mountains for tourists who are too lazy and/or uninterested to really explore the park and who mostly go to east Tennessee for the crappy outlet malls and novelty stores. Anyone who goes to the area should take a little time to go hiking in the Smokies and skip the gaudy tourist trap garbage that surrounds it.

Last time I was in Pigeon Forge, I got a lot of Xmas shopping accomplished. And I also think the ride around the loop to Cades Cove is very pretty. It was awesome for my daughter who lives in South Florida and has not experienced the beauty of Tennessee and its wildlife.

19. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Edited on Sun Jul-09-06 03:03 PM by Radical Activist
One of my favorite places to go. Nearby Knoxville is a fun city too, especially if you want to hear traditional music. The Old Town and campus areas have a fun night life. You can go up in the sunsphere while you're there.

Beale street and Sun Studios in Memphis are cool. Music Row in Nashville hasn't been the same since the Opry moved out to the suburbs but its worth a visit.
