Have you Googled your Real Name recently?
Adjunct to Have you Googled your screen name lately? post by Juniperx

Because when I do so, I've found some really interesting things. Like links to blogs about articles that I've written. I've been attacked, and also defended. Funny.

Also, it's a good thing to do every now and again because of the very real potential for Identity Theft.

Just sayin'.

2. Mine is relatively unusual
so the only links are to those identity sites. My address is a few numbers off and the age they gave me is very flattering.

I think the FBI must be doing the legwork. I remember my file from the 60s being about as accurate.

18. Seems like my name is common as well...in Ireland.
Not that that is bad. Could not find anything about myself, which also is not bad.

Though I did find a link to someone with my name in a different Chicago suburb.

5. That's how I once found out I'd been phished.
I found my name in a database of names that a spammer accidentally left publicly accessible through the Google cache.

That same spammer had similarly exposed thousands of names of people who had signed-up for various multi-level marketing scams.

And yes, I reported it to authorities.

Boy, my Jewish parents would be totally shocked!

Although, there is some irony in this. Their grandson (my son) was baptized Mormon and married a Mormon woman.

No, guys -- he just has one wife.

21. Yes. And I can't believe it's all there, the part with the water ski,
the carton of dental floss and those blood spattered semi nude pictures of Pat Nixon ironing one of Dick's shirts.

Their interpretation of what was happening there is fallacious. I didn't even know about the Spanish Civil War when that happened, and I was born many years after the war ended.

Who do I sue?

so these come up. But every once in a while a library adds one of the books to their collection, and then for a while they post it. Otherwise I would never know. Good practice to look every once in a while. Thanks for the identity theft heads up. I never thought of that. :)

Technically it's a woman who has my name who has written all of that.

I also apparently donated to a non-profit organizaton that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities somewhere between July and December of '03, though I have no recollection of doing so. However I work in the field so it sounds like something I'd do.

26. The odd thing is
I've written and published lots of stuff, so not unsurprisingly, I find links - everything from amazon.com (books) to newsletters, whatever. Every once in a while, maybe once a year, if I'm overly bored, I google my name.

However, I have a very unusual full first name, particularly when coupled with my last name.

I was surprised to come across some with the identical same name, but reversed (his last was my first, my first was his last) who lived in Germany.

He apparently now lives in the U.S.

It's so odd - I thought I was the only person in the world with this name, now I find there's someone else with exactly the same name, but reversed. It's like a private club of two.

And he even lives near one of my relatives.

Weird.

And if not for the 'net, I'd never have known this.
